Rabshakeh Posted Wednesday at 04:21 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 04:21 PM The Scottish vocalist. I've never been sure whether she is entirely my cup of tea but then again I haven't really tried yet. Are there any fans on here? And if so what do they recommend? Quote
mjazzg Posted Wednesday at 07:43 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:43 PM (edited) Well her new release of standard with Geoff Eales sounds very intriguing. Try her with Schweitzer and Leandre in Les Diaboliques. I saw them live and it was one of the most uplifting improv gigs ever, genuinely fine use of humour. A different tack, try 'And John' with the ever wonderful Mark Wastell on Confront Recordings. Then with Keith and Julie Tippets there's the fabulously titled 'Mr Invisible and the Drunken Sheila's...' on FMP An early Leo Records with Peter Nu too Some of the most joyous and engaging live vocals I've seen were her with Julie T as the vocal section in a Louis Moholo-Moholo big band gig. They just had such fun. She's the antidote to po-faced improv. I don't get everything she does by a long chalk but when I do I love it. She's at Oto with the standards group soon, I'm seriously tempted I forgot this one, excellent https://www.discogs.com/master/3266284-Maggie-Nicols-Matilda-Rolfsson-Mark-Wastell-Semiotic-Drift Also, her work with SME, Oliv etc Edited Wednesday at 08:06 PM by mjazzg Quote

colinmce Posted Wednesday at 09:09 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:09 PM I second Oliv & Familie aka John Stevens Spontaneous Music Ensemble (Marmalade). Desert island music. Transitions on Emanem with Caroline Kraabel and Charlotte Hug is fantastic. Live At The Bastille with Joelle Leandre & Lindsay Cooper Alfred Harth's This Earth on ECM Two with Irene Schweizer: Live At Taktlos (two tracks) and Storming Of The Winter Palace Iskra 1912 - Sequences 72 & 73 (two long pieces) a piece on LJCO's Three Pieces For Orchestra (one piece) I have long been intrigued by this 1994 tape from a group with Marcio Mattos, Roland Ramanan, and Michael Garcia but have never been able to track down a trace of it: https://www.discogs.com/release/11718184-Wooden-Taps-Wooden-Taps Quote

'Transitions' looks interesting and 'Earth' I may still have but haven't played for ages so much so I'd forgotten MN is on it Quote
colinmce Posted 19 hours ago Report Posted 19 hours ago Wish we knew what the status of the Emanem stock was. I really hope somebody can take it on and make the catalog available again. Quote
mjazzg Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago Yes of only as downloads on BC but that would be a big job given the size of the catalogue. I guess there's lots of CDs in a store room in Spain still. Quote
