Conductor who championed period instruments and called vibrato a ‘modern drug’.

He  was right about the ubiquitous uncritical use of vibrato. I have many recordings he conducted, and saw him live with London Classical Player with the 3rd and 4th Brahms Sympjhonies. He way the first to have metronome markings in the liner notes.
