Re: DAVID AMRAM ... A rather amazing musician, who has operated around the fringes of jazz since he was a teenage prodigy. He basically plays French Horn, but he also plays an amazing variety of esoteric instruments. He could be called one of the true pioneers of "world music" ...

And dig ...

Has anyone actually heard these Japanese reissues of the "Jazz Studio" series ... have they been remastered into pristine, crisp CDs? I was a little disappointed in the Lone Hill reissues .. very obviously taken from scratchy LPs ... but it is still nice to have them in the house again. My old LPs were better though ... That Amram-Barrow group is :tup:tup

Speaking of Burns, there is a superb album recorded for Decca at around the same time 'Very Warm For Jazz' which took me years to find but was really worth the wait! Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Frank Rehak, Jimmy Cleveland, Eddie Costa and others were on that one.

Yes, I've been looking for that one as well... I have a real sweet tooth for Burns. The Jazz Studio series does seem like a good one for Mosaic as well; with the more liberal access to Universal of late, perhaps it will eventually materialize.

I'm sure that you are all aware of, as it has been discussed elsewhere on this board, Lonehill just put out six CDs under John Graas' name which included all the Jazz Studio series plus the Grass jazz Lab sets
