erm...

the ZYX is the same as the US version BTW, just repackaged. and the package still is the same, only with a different sticker on the *bottom* of the box.

It was available for years from Zweitausendeins, for 70 DM/35 Euro. Maybe some local 2001 stores still have it. I bought it early this year in Munich.

Since I started looking for this set, I've stumbled across a (German) review by someone I have relied on again and again with good results, and he wrote that on four of the discs, the sound is rather poor. In the review he writes, that the drums often sound like someone was drumming on "phone books".

Flat. Dead.

Can someone verify that?

The drum sound is rather flabby in spots. My guess this is due to the soft tuning used by drummer Carl Burnett.

There is nothing wrong with the recorded sound, it's first rate. The problem is the drum tuning. There is no "snap" to the snare on some tracks and I don't find that attractive.
