  1. It looks more like mid-January outside.. Got to bundle up and go dig out...
  2. Thanks Julie.. It indeed could have been worse
  3. He at least was intelligent enough to pull off until the state police arrived and actually came over to see if I was alright.. I told the guy I was ok and that he was driving too fast for the conditions and he said he just hit a slick spot and I said no, you were driving too fast for the weather conditions and should have been driving at everybody else's speed which was about 50 mph. This clown was doing between 60 and 65 and he got the ticket..
  4. I'm driving home from a gig on the freeway last night in a blizzard and minding my own business when a "pickup truck dumb fuck" comes up behind me driving too damned fast for the weather conditions. I move over to the right lane and he then loses control and takes out my left rear quarter panel and now I'm making a 360 spin on the freeway and luckily getting control of the car before someone else can slam into me, and I pull off on the left median and call 911... This winter is sure getting off on the wrong foot for me..
  5. Winter rudely invaded (and uninvited) on Sunday in the middle of our fund raiser and has firmly and forcefully established dominance over our domain and likely for the next 4 months or longer.. It looks like it's going to be a long and hard winter here..
  6. As many of you know I live in west Michigan, an area that gets lots of snow complete with lake effect and white outs.. Today dumped about 4 inches here and it will continue on and off until tomorrow night.. Anybody have a connection for a cruise ship gig in the Caribbean?

    Mitch Mitchell

When I was a teen pup Mitch was my drummer! Never heard a rock drummer play so creatively.. In an early interview he was quoted as saying he didn't listen to rock drummers but jazz drummers like Elvin, Philly Joe, Tony, and Max.. His work on "Manic Depression" was an obvious jazz influence..

  9. Anybody around west Michigan can help us celebrate this Thursday in Grand Rapids at Founders Founders Brewing Co. 235 Grandville Ave SW, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503 in the tap room.. We start at 9:30 pm.. Check our calendar on myspace. We have 4 other gigs this month if you can't make it to Founders. http://www.myspace.com/organissimo
  10. This month we are officially celebrating our 8th anniversary together as a group! I came on board after being contacted by Jim, who had heard me on a Jimmy Forrest/Shirley Scott record and found out from organist Doug Decker that I lived nearby in Grand Rapids. I had just split up an organ trio I had put together in 1996 with 2 guys who weren't at all interested in recording or gigging so the timing was perfect. I got together at Jim's dad's house for a jam with the boys and knew this was going to work!
  11. Not lucky if they have to ruin their back humping the damned thing in and out of bars and concert halls! Jim has a story about Schenectady, New York and his B3..
  12. You probably gave that dog the happiest year of his life! My condolences.
  13. As far as larger venues go, The Triple Door is well worth checking out. With the continued success of Groovadelphia it might be a possibility. They book a wide variety of music including jazz, primarily major touring acts. So, it's not a "jazz club" per se. The Triple Door Love to tour the west coast.. Just don't have any connections for gigs out there right now...
  14. Met Jimmy Carl Black in the early 90's when he came through with the Grandmothers.. Interesting guy. Hung out with him and listened to his road stories... He was certainly a colorful addition to the Mothers Of Invention.
  15. I use to see the edition of that band with Will Benard all the time back in SF. They put on great shows. Luminous Charms was a killer record, nice mix of Mingus type compositions and outside playing. If Allen has only heard the first album Sings Of Life I can see why he may have that impression but they progressed greatly after that. He is playing with Dafnis Prieto's band this weekend in my hood, think I will go check them out. If Allen could have been to that show at Kimball's In S.F. in 1987 he would be a fan.. They were killin' that night!
  16. On the contrary my friend, this band was on fire live !!! Very interesting and exciting band.. If you could have seen them live you would feel differently..
  17. Peter Apfelbaum is a bad boy! I used to go to his shows around the S.F. Bay Area in the mid-late 80's when he had that killin' band "The Hieroglyphics Ensemble" together.. Peter released I believe two discs with that band. Peter also did some collaborations with Don Cherry that are available on disc and DVD. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&search...baum&page=1
  18. Pandora is jammin" !!!! http://www.pandora.com/share/album/86f0f5aa5e5097ac
  19. These aren't the same girls who inspired the album title but they are welcome to come and dance at our shows..
  20. And tonight we'll have a hard freeze with lows in the 20's.. We need a winter schedule for Organissimo doing Caribbean cruise ship gigs and a tour of the southwest and Florida..
