  1. Memory could be faulty but I think it was the Incredible String Band.
  2. I dropped the ball. I did listen to the track but I didn't have this thread available and couldn't remember the details enough to analyze it. Next time!
  3. I started djaying last year at a friend's cider tasting room and I've used their records from time to time with good responses fr M the crowd. I grew up hearing them on the radio but ignored them for years after that because I was too "hip" but I started buying their lps about twenty years ago and found out I was misguided. They are hip in their own way.
  4. Circa 1999 I saw him several times in local venues as he was living here for a while but one of the more memorable times was when he was in the audience for a Eddie Harris show. We were sitting at tables next to each other up front so I could hear things and he was giving Eddie shit all night. Sure it was friendly teasing but weird. Alcohol might have been involved. Another time he came into a hotel that was being used to celebrate the local NPR station going fulltime jazz and Joey Calderazo was playing piano in a room and when he decided to take a break Jimmy sat down and played piano for about fortyfive minutes. That was a real treat.
  5. Np Grant Green's Idle Moments (Blue Note) Analogue Prod. 45 RPM Pressing Haven't played this in a while so it's sounding extra good this morning.
  6. Bartz-Henderson-Conners - Live at Nemu Jazz Inn 19July1975 Gary, Eddie and Norman of course with Reggie Workman and Elmer Gibson. Three long tracks including a nce version of Naima.
  7. NP Walt Dickerson - Life Rays (Soul Note) w/Sirone and Andrew Cyrille from 1982
  8. George Wein Presents Toshiko (Storyville/Trio reissue) w/Paul Chambers and Ed Thigpen! Quiet Japanese pressing. Recent purchase and pleased.
  9. Blue Mitchell - Step Lightly. (Blue Note) LT series copy I scored today. I've been wanting a copy for some time and this copy didn't break the bank.
  10. NP Bennie Maupin Qt. - Early Reflections (Cryptogramophone) i wish this group had recorded more music together.
  11. Np Andrew Hill - Eternal Spirit (Blue Note) 1989 sometimes this one gets lost in the shuffle but I like hearing Hutcherson w/Hill and Greg Osby is a nice addition. His adventurous soloing mixed wth his lovely tone makes for satisfying listening.
  12. Indeed. The two albums I listen to the most by the band for decades now.
  13. NP Marcin Wasilewski Trio Live. (ECM) first spin.... next up my other purchase today, Andrew Cyrille's Lebroba.
  14. NP Ralph Towner - Diary (ECM) German pressing i think this was my first Towner lp back in the day. Still sounds so good to these ears.
  15. WP Caetano Veloso - first album NP Brasil '65 Introducing Wanda Sah
  16. NP Brad Mehldau - Art Of The Trio vol.2 i haven't played this in years so it's sounding particularly fresh this morning.
  17. NP Donald Byrd - Slow Drag (Blue Note) Liberty stereo lp Sonny Red!
  18. WP Miles/Evans - Porgy & Bess NP Daniel Lanois - Belladonna (w/Brian Blade) I have always loved DL's pedal steel playing and never felt like I got to hear much of it until he released this album.
  19. Oh hell yeah! NP Red Mitchell/Tommy Flanagan - You're Me (Phontastic) 1987 cd nice little duo album from two who know how to do it.
  20. My intro to the supranino was Ian Anderson's playing on A Passion Play and subsequent tour. I'll get me coat.
  21. I bought it back then too but I've played it many times. Often enough that I've re-evaluated a few albums I didn't immediately fall for. YMMV
  22. I've been going through the Joe Henderson Mileston box since yesterday. NP Disc 4 Pursuit Of Blackness followed by JH in Japan. It's been a while since I toured this collection and I'm enjoying it immensely.
