  1. Hey Sidewinder.....care to translate for us Yanks across the pond! I take it a Dog's Bollocks is good and ten a penny is expensive??? As they have always said, we are two countries separated by a common language! hehehe
  2. maybe he will reisue it on his own label,. Aleph, he does that with a lot of albums, over the last years...
  3. That Lalo Schifrin 'Marquis de Sade' is a nice one. A bit on the short side (most of the tracks around the 2-3 minute mark) but one that I find most enjoyable. Almost a concept album, really. People seem to have very mixed opinions on this one - if you like jazz with a 'baroque' edge then you'll probably like it. sounds cool! thanks! just checked, of course nowhere to get anymore. :( funny thing is that, due to make it a limited edition, the cd is not obtainable anymore, and when it will, very high priced, while there is an original vinyl on GEMM for $11.50 JB
  4. how's the Lalo Schifrin??? don't read a lot on this forum about him, but somehow O really dig his music!!! JB
  5. if somebody would walk away during the first song of my performance, whatever that performance wouldb be, that person wouldn't deserve much of my respect anyway... JB
  6. what was that book called? JB An Amazon search for Max Gordon turns up THIS. Pretty easy to do yourself. thanks, chuck.
  7. just finished reading "Blue Note Records" by Richard Cook, after finishing "The House That Trane Built: The Story of Impulse Records" by Ashley Kahn. I'm wondering if anybody has a suggestion for me, for what to read after this, thematically by record company? JB
  8. on ebay? just played mine for the first time. this sounds fantastic!! JB
  9. You got that Willis Jackson LP, Clem? MG
  10. not sure, J. but I strongly suspect all that classical indie stuff isn't tracked by anyone except the respective co.s. i'll leave the greater politics of SACD to the pop/rock folks who had a horse, etc. again, it's not huge #s but real ones, & ones the jazz market should consider. but could you explain what you mean by this? that jazz should consider SACD? JB
  11. But we wouldn't do that, would we??? Seriously, though - if they can figure out how to make a file that can only be played 10 times before it self destructs, they can figure out how to make a file that can only be played once before it self destructs, and then you have essentially the same system that I wished for (and am unlikely to ever get...) so you want a system where you don't own music, and pay for every song you play on what machine you have, in house or mobile? JB
  12. Also nice about eMusic: you can download AGAIN. Just go to your account and select the downloads you have already paid for and download them again . . . very cool feature.
  13. Seconded. However, I still feel my emusic downloads "count" less than my purchased cds. I like having the artwork and manufactured cd like others. I agree, JB
  14. but that would be as illegal as dowloading is now (from illegal sites)... JB
  15. It's all a question of pricing. Pay-per-listen can more economical when one does not come back very often to the same music. It's like renting DVDs. Of course it's not for those who like collecting more than listening of course. and maybe first you can choose. and afterwards, there will be only one system, because of "public demand", right??
  16. I think it's that sticky plastic security tape that some people crave... we don't have that in Europe... :(:(
  17. also very true. but I read a few articles a while ago, that parts of the industry don't want to sell downloads at all. they have to, now it's the new craze, but what they're really after is a system simulair of "pay per view", and that's a system you guys in the US are more common with. You buy for a download to listen to it 10 times, and then the download is unlistenable. In that way, they can make money of it all the time! JB
  18. do you mean "Let It Roll"? all I see around here is the is the 1993 version, in stores and on the net. (if I don't count the japanese version) JB
  19. Betamax, VHS AND Video 2000 existed for quite some time here, next to each other. I know a lot of people who had to throw away a lot of tapes, when finally VHS was the only one left. One of the reasons that I don't even consider SACD is that I want to be sure which one survives. SACD or DVDaudio. (who remembers superVHS, DCC digital cassettes, DAT tapes, minidisc, etc, etc) JB
  20. The comparision with Betamax is too harsh. SACD is doing quite well on the classical market, which has a much larger proportion of audiophiles than pop or jazz. There is a consistent flow of new releases. From the recent BBC Music Magazine awards (which is not a hifi mag), half of the awarded discs are SACDs. Significantly, it's the large companies that have abandonned SACD, while for the small labels the format seems to pay off. 21. maybe, but they sure have made some money out of it, and if not they come up with a new one after that. the last 100 and more years count a lot of systems that didn't really made it..
  22. they will always devellop new systems, that must replace older systems, whether they say the new system will be beter, faster, handier, cleaner, whatever it's no different than develloping a brand of washing powder, only cooler to talk about at a friends birthday: more cool to say that you work on a new audio system, or you work with a company that devellops new talent on the hitparade, so that can get you free tickets at a party for your friends, or guest list tickets, themn to get your friends free washing powder but in the end, the company alwayst has to make a way make money... JB
