  1. he, Cliff, what was the | The "Saxophone Colossus" debacle"? JB
  2. wow... I suggest the US members of this forum order a container full of them, hehehe JB
  3. EMI has stopped using Copy Control but hasn't replaced the copy-controlled CDs (unlike the Sony rootkit, Copy Control is harmless), so it would indeed take some time until non-protected re-pressings become available. did other records companies replace cd for this reason? probably not. too expensive.. JB
  4. I saw a big pile of them yesterday at my local shop...
  5. now the copycontrol of new cd's has been cancelled, maybe there will be an european repressing without? (after the ones with cpoycontrol have been sold?) JB
  6. Me too. I have the LP version, made in UK (it did not have a Rare Groove sticker, anyway). If I remember well, it came out together with Duke Pearson's "How Insensitive", a Candido Blue note LP (the one with the Richie Havens piece) and a couple of other BN titles. All made in UK. luca thanks MG and Luca, it's maybe to early, but the the conclusion could be that it isn't a "rare groove series"after all... (untill proven otherwise, of course. if 1 member of this forum has one, it all turns around again) just like the "midnight creeper"? which of course qualifies as a "rare groove series" musically but strickly speaking isn't part of it, and was released remastered, out side of the rare groove, or any other series... JB I hope what I'm writing still makes sense... :):P I think I may have confused myself. Following up what you said about "Midnight creeper", I had a look at that, and also some definite Rare Grooves, which say so in the spine. "Pretty things" doesn't look like the Rare Grooves. It looks like two other CDs that came out here at, I guess, the same time (they all say 1993) Patton's "Let 'em roll" and GG's "Alive" (the straight reissue with no bonus tracks). These - oh, I see they have consecutive numbers 89793/4/5 - were all made in Holland. They all have a coloured strip about 3/4" deep across the top on the back, with a little picture of the front cover in it. There is no remastering info included in the insert. And I have a sneaking suspicion that these issues didn't come out in America. MG I cannot check my "Let It Roll", 'cause I used it as a last minute present for a friend last week, but I remember the little pic of the front cover, and that it's from 1993. have to get a new one soon. (and btw, my friend liked it a lot!!! :)) JB
  7. of course. but I must admit that it sometimes works for me: if, for example, by coincidence I already own 5 out of a series of 7, I tend to buy those other 2. I know it's a marketing trick, but sometimes I'm a sucker, I know
  8. so your catalogue is from 1997, and the earliest rare groove I have is from 1994/95, that is lou Donaldson's "The Scorpion". (On The CD it says 1994, on the back, it says 1995) Others that I have from 1995/195 (CD/Back), are "Kofi", Boogaloo" and "Everything I play is funky". They all have the "rare grooves" spine, but the strange thing about it is that the last one("funky"), doesn't say "rare grooves series" on the backcover of the jewelcase, and also doens't say "rare groove series" on the cd itself. This instead of the other 3. BTW, the same thing happens to ALL of the last 2 batchtes (5 in 2002, and 4 in 2003)... so the ones only with a sticker also don't have "rare grooves" on the cd itself? sorry if I keep babbling about this, but I'm tremendously intriged by this.. (since I started collecting 6 months ago, now have 30 "spined rare grooves") JB

  11. if that is the case, this one is for me, too... I'm a sucker for that blaxploitation feel... :)
  12. I have a question for the rare groove experts, here on the forum, I'm having a discussion with a seller on amazon, who says "Pretty Things", by Lou Donaldson was never part of this series. Does anybody of you guys have actually this one? (cause it's on the list that circulates here) JB
  13. was just browsing your list... what is so special about the connection soundtrack? were there 2 versions? JB The Blue Note soundtrack has been reissued a couple of times now (I believe) but this version with Howard McGhee and Tina Brooks (who left so few recordings behind) has been far less easily acquired. thanks for the fast reply, both... and does any of you know the sory about having 2 albums out?
  14. was just browsing your list... what is so special about the connection soundtrack? were there 2 versions? JB
  15. Oh, that's what you meant. We all thought you meant the original (LP) notes. Those are the only ones that I need. But I do have the RVG CD, and I don't recall any missing notes. Well, I do mean the original (LP) Notes, the new notes next to it are complete. But accordinging to the copmment here, it's only in the european version. I took it back to the store, and ordered me an US version through internet. JB
  16. well, I do like the title song, but I don't like the song about macaroni
  17. Now, I'm as big of a fan of the 70's jazz-funk genre as anyone, and that sound, but I always found this cheesy. Well the title track is a small classic I guess, but "Macaroni" anyone?? that Macaroni song is a real bummer, yeah JB
  18. did you ever play in Amsterdam? and I don't mean Amsterdam, Michigan
