  1. Anyone want to trade their old K2 of Cookin' by Miles' Quintet for the new RVG version. I am looking for the K2 and would buy you a copy of the RVG and then you send me the K2. For me, it's getting the K2 at the lower RVG price and for you it's upgrading for $1.25 for shipping.
  2. That was one of the possible abbreviations I came up with but I wasn't sure. I previously have used Voyetra'a Digital Orchestrator Plus but it doesn't work with newer versions of Windows. Since I was familiar with that program and pretty happy with it when I was using it, I got Record Producer Deluxe which is the current incarnation of the old Digital Orchestrator series. My computer is fitted with a Soundblaster Audiology 2 sound card.

    The Gigolo

I hope you don't take me seriously when I take credit for this release. You did see the "wink" right? If I had any say at all, it wouldn't have been three years to be released and we would have an RVG of Back to The Chicken Shack to listen to as well!
  4. uh... what's a DAW? Seriously...
  5. By the way, I also got a FREE 120gig external hard drive from Musicians Friend with the PreSonus puchase.
  6. Although there are many things to thank you for (this board, the Christmas tunes, a couple of great Organissimo discs to name a few) I want to thank you for your recommendations for my "home studio" It was a long time ago but you responded to my question and recommended a Shure SM57 mic and PreSonus TubePre pre amp to record my guitar onto my computer. I got these for Christmas from my folks. I've only just started messing around with this stuff but I'm getting much better sound than recording direct through my ART SGX LT processor. I couldn't have done any better for $200!

    The Gigolo

As most of you know, my personal campaign to the get The Gigolo RVG 'd is the main reason we can compare the two versions. I was / am disappointed with the results however. On my system and to my ears and yada yada... the overall recording sounds better to me. (If you don't remember, I am a fan of the RVG sound.) The things I like about the RVG sound are: 1) The bass is much sharper and actually audible. Bass solos are actually heard and not mistaken for the end of the song or the malfunction of my player. 2) More high end which translates to more pop in the snare and shimmering cymbals. The problem with The Gigolo is that these clearer highs and lows result in Morgan's trumpet losing it's bite.
  8. It's funny how some phrases will jump out of the text at you. I thought for a second this thread had taken a terrible turn. Danielle, do you know about yourmusic.com? It would be a great way to build a collection. $6.99 a disc shipped.
  9. Wow! This second grammer and punctuation exercise is even tougher than the first. When using sequential periods for the effect of a pause, I've always used three. Is their a rule concerning this? Is this even an official punctuation? Is three enough? Is four too many? You stumped me on that one! By the way, you COULDN'T care less. If you could care less that means you care, at least to some degree.
  10. If you ever head down to St Louis, Tulsa, or Dallas, a good stopping point to fill out the tour would be here in Fayetteville Arkansas. It's a college town with the usual joints. Also home to the Walton Arts Center which has a variety of stages and brings in some pretty good acts. Greg Osby, Herbie Hancock with Brecker and Hargrove, Dave Brubeck, Ramsey Lewis have all passed through and the shows are well attended. Pat Martino is coming in January (I've got my tickets) I know a guy who knows a guy who is the head of the local jazz society and I bet we could get something worked out. (Guy #1 is a drummer who used to be a recording engineer who once recorded Art Blakey out in California!) The main music venue other than the WAC is George's Majestic Lounge. I've seen Galactic and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band there. If you do come this way, YOU WILL STOP IN FAYETTEVILLE even if I have to rent out a music hall myself!
  11. I got it from Warmoth. They also have the Paisley pattern that is popular.
  12. I never took a before shot but here's the same guitar on ebay in black.
  13. My latest project, just in time for Christmas. I bought this mini guitar off ebay over a year ago for my daughters to mess around with. When it arrived it was essentially unplayable. I had to relocate the nut and the bridge for it to even start to play in tune. I replaced the tuners with a set out of an old Squire strat. In this condition it has been adequate for toying around with but with my 7 yr old starting to really want to learn to play, I figured I would get rid of it and buy a another small scale guitar (the Hello Kitty Squire mini strat most likely) My office partner at work mentioned he might want a guitar for his daughter so I said if I could get this one playing a little better I would sell it to him. Well once I started, the project kinda snowballed. It turned out pretty nice and plays much better than I expected.
  14. A friend recently named his kid William Truman Furlow. Initials WTF! He's aware of the internet and realized the implications but decided to stick with it.
  15. I found THIS on Charlie's website. There are some stills and audio of a guitar clinic he led.
  16. What about those tan candies in the orange and black wrappers? I never could even figure out what flavor those were supposed to be. Peanut butter, butter rum, who knows?
  17. I only made it through about the first three "Di ya ba do dah dah dah" s Couldnt YES take some sort of legal action?
  18. Related question: Anyone know of any good beginner jazz piano books? I mean REAL simple, for my 7 yr old daughter who has one year of lessons under her belt. My buddy teaches strings in elementary schools and he has them play Watermelon Man and a few other jazz tunes. (Better than Twinkle Twinkle Little Star for the 10000th time!)
  19. Here's my two cents... Hold off on replacing that fridge door until your through having kids and the youngest is about 5 yrs old (I wouldn't rush to repair that window screen either)
  20. The way I've been ebaying lately, I'm almost tempted to buy that body Greg. If it was drilled for a vintage trem I might bite. That color screams for a nice maple, V neck and vintage tuners which wouldn't really go with the modern trem.
  21. This body is not a solid Koa body but a basswood body with a Koa veneer. I think it does change the tone a bit however and I like the way it sounds. As I have alluded to before, my wife couldn't care less about my guitars so if she ever says one looks good or sounds good then I take that seriously. She did comment on the nice sound of the Koa strat, but she absolutely hates the looks of it. Especially the pearloid pickguard which I chose because the Fender Koa strat has one and I think it gives a little accent to the dark wood finish. There were some compatibility issues between the American strat and the Korean body. 1 Althought the neck fit snugly in the pocket, the screw holes didn't allign and I had to patch and redrill the screw holes in the neck. Also the neck sits a little lower in the pocket so I had to trim the pickguard a little. 2 The mounting posts for the American standard bridge are a differnt size from the Korean bridge but in my search for the proper screws, I found a luthier who works out of his gargage and he has access to a machine shop and was able to rethread the brushings for me which turned out perfectly. 3 The pickguard I ordered was not bad, I only had to drill one new screw hole although several others had to go in at a little bit of an angle. I was very pleased with the results. Greg, there's a guy on ebay who sells original strat parts. His user name is reliablefender and his store is The Stratosphere. I think he gets new (blem?) Fenders and sells them for parts. Most of the time the price is a little higher than elsewhere on ebay but you're getting a new, original Fender part. If your patient you might find a neck that slips through at a decent price. Also ebay is a good place to sell those bodies as well. I sold my 1996 American standard body for $255! which is more than I expected from it. There's a lot of crap bodies out there for cheap, but there are a lot of guys who know quality and will pay pretty good money for a good body. My next project is a hardtail strat. I've bought a Robert Cray neck and just yesterday won an auction for a Robert Cray body that I'll be assembling soon. If it turns out as well as I hope, I may sell the Koa strat.
  22. Having just finished the third and final season of Arrested Development, I pickup up Season 1 and 2 of The Office. The first couple of episodes were pretty good, but as season one progresses you can see the writers really getting a hold on these characters and I can tell already this show is going to live up to the hype! With three kids 6, 4 and 2, I don't see much TV other than Dora, Diego and Disney DVDs. We never get to see these when they air (although I've got a DVR now - I just forget to use it!)
  23. Here's my latest project. I took a Korean made Fender Koa Stratocaster body and "Americanized" it with the neck, hardware, pickups etc from my American strat. Because the plastic part were yellowed a bit, I replaced the knobs with authentic Fender knobs and the pickup covers and pickguard with parts from guitarfetish on ebay.
  24. Everything on Burrell's Midnight Blue. It's a little too obvious but I would be excited to hear someone playing those tunes.
  25. Whenever these "shredders" come up for discussion, I always think about Joe Satriani. For me he is really THE player that can shred with the best but has so much taste and melodic sense that his music is worth listening to and listening to and listening to. Hill Groove from Strnage Beautiful Music played on my ipod while jogging last night and I think this is one of his best of the best. JS trivia - Joe was Charlie Hunter's guitar teacher back in the day in California.
