connoisseur series500
Saw in the local paper a few days ago that the Ohio Historical Society has finally put up a sign outside Art Tatum's house on 1123 City Park Ave here in Toledo in order to commemorate the piano great. It's about time! It's in a crummy part of town, but I just might make my pilgrimage over there. Wonder if visitors are allowed in the house? connoisseur series500
Does the sign say: GOD WAS IN THE HOUSE ? Yeah, that's cute. The sign gives a basic rough biography. It's made of bronze. I'll have to go check it out. There was a picture of it in the paper. I don't know the technology to display it online. JSngry
If you look at it JUST right, that picket fence looks like a piano keyboard. Perfect.
montg
Some other jazz greats from NW Ohio--Joe Henderson's from Lima OH and WIld Bil Davison's from Defiance. I wonder if they have plaques. I pased through Defiance last summer and asked the register girl at the local Wendy's if there was any commemoration of Wild Bill in town. SHe looked at me like I was nuts. "WHo's that?"
