Sterling Mendelssohn perfomances from the german Bartholdy Quartett (Joshua Epstein 1. Violine + Max Speermann 2. Violine + Jörg-Wolfgang Jahn Viola + Annemarie Dengler Violoncello) from 1973/74 which (IMO) remained state of art until today .... beautufully recorded too and the 4CD reissue via Acanta/Membran costs a pittance ....

I recognized the cover image as being an illustration by Richard Powers who is best known for his dozens of covers for science fiction paperbacks and magazines in the 1950s and 1960s.
