Beaver Harris 360 Degrees Music Experience - Negcaumongus (Cadence, 1981)

It's barely recorded at all, but I can't get enough of the duet between Don Pullen on piano and Francis Haynes on steel drums at the start of side two.

If anyone can find a mono lp of this session grab it - the sound/mix is far superior to the stereo. I am sorry I sold my lp when I got a cd, but luckily I made a cassette of the record.

I have this reissue on my shelf:

Elmo Hope Ensemble: Hope From Rikers Island. Chiaroscuro CR 2009 [1978]

Gregg August, Dialogues on RaceImage result for Gregg August dialogues on race

This bassist/composer's set at Winter JazzFest (an eternity ago) in January was an unexpected highlight, and this new CD reflects what I heard.

Perhaps not "Jazz," strictly speaking.  ... Then again, who cares when the music is this good?  ;)

Larry Young - Of Love and Peace (Blue Note, 1966)

This music has a swirling, Coltrane-like potency and beauty.  It's really thumping me today!

First today was Keith Jarrett, "The-Out-of-Towners" ECM cd. RIP Gary Peacock. . . you were a master.

Then a very "pretty" session, Houston Person "Sentimental Journey" High Note cd.

Then another that fit the vibes above, Kenny Burrell "Live at the Village Vanguard" Japan cd
