  2. I remember buying it on release in 1960 when I was 20: my first Coltrane album. The Coltrane quartet appeared in London just before the release of this album and the new music was a great surprise. I missed the London trip, but a friend who didn't described the new music to me - very accurately as it turned out, once I could hear it on record.

  4. At the risk of breaching the Board's "no politics" protocol, I have to say I particularly like the tune title "FU Donald" on this album. As a title it's a worthy successor to "Fables of Faubus". Following comments to me by Alan Barnes, I suggested he write something called "Brexit Blues", but so far nothing has appeared.
  5. It put me onto Oliver, Armstrong and Morton, which was no mean thing. Trouble was, anything without a banjo was too modern to be "jazz".

  7. IIRC Coltrane can be heard asking, "Where's the beer opener?" at the end of a take on the Davis session(s) that produced Workin', Relaxin' etc.
