  3. I had a ticked booked for the Bristol Colston Hall concert on that tour. What wasn't expected was the mother of all snowstorms and half of the West Country being cut off and emergency food airlifts. Never did make the concert ! I did make it! Unusually for me, I have kept - Christiern-like - (stuck to the inner sleeve of the LP Svengali) part of a programme page on which I have written "Manchester Free Trade Hall, Feb 1978" and which continues: Gil Evans - leader Ernie Royal - trumpet Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson - trumpet Lew Soloff - trumpet, flugelhorn Pete Levin - mini-moog, clavinet, french horn John Clark - french horn, guitar Dave Sandborn - alto, soprano, sopranino, lyricon Arthur Blythe - alto, soprano George Adams - tenor, soprano, flute, bass clarinet Bob Stewart - tuba, flugelhorn Masabumi Kikuchi keyboards Herb Bushler - electric bass Sue Evans - drums But whatever happened to Lacy?

  18. Really enjoyed tonight's programme - especially the Anachronic Jazz Band doing a trad version of "Joy Spring" and the Mulligan track at the end. Yes, Anachronic's "dixieland bop" is something else! AndMulligan at the Village Vanguard must be one of my favourite records. Apart from "Blueport", the arrangements of the two ballads, "Come Rain or Shine" and "Body and Soul", and Mulligan's solos on them, are truly marvellous.
