  1. Would make a great jazz album cover!
  2. The first two are new to me. Nice to see them! I'm still an abstract expressionist at heart! The Chet Baker is new to me and particularly nice.
  3. Sad news! I saw him twice, not long before he became a leader and soon after. The first time was at the St George's Hall, Bradford in 1959 with the Have Trumpet Will Excite Gillespie quintet. It was a package show with the Brubeck quartet and a Buck Clayton group that included Emmett Berry, Dicky Wells, Earl Warren and Buddy Tate. Quite a night! The second was a few years later in Leeds when the Mance trio with Bob Cranshaw was packaged with the George Shearing group, much to the dismay of me and my cool friends.
  4. Yes, I grew up with this:
  5. A great arranger! A great loss. Love all those Nestico-arranged late Basie albums!
  6. Yes, Buddy's later story became more a list of gigs, etc. (What, Ronnie's again!) I guess as with most people routine set in, leaving, sadly, the only drama his health crises. Interesting to read the author's take on stories I'd heard as word of mouth when they happened, e.g. Buddy's accelerating anger as they travelled further and further from London into the depths of the countryside to reach the Maltings gig. Also, his deathbed humour about being allergic to country music was good to hear again. All in all, what a f-----g character!
  7. Yes, i've noticed that one. I think my tastes in art - together with my jazz likes - are located about 60-70 years in the past.
  8. Yes, I always liked this cover - and the music, of course!
  9. You're second with that one, Bresna! The late Humphrey Lyttelton, whose wit is sorely missed, used to say that "in super Hi-Fi" meant "re-recorded in a bathroom".
  10. I'd drop that ham sandwich from the order, if I were you.
  11. Some great stuff there!
