i saw him exactly 20 years before that at the St George's Hall, Bradford with Jack Teagarden, Earl Hines, Cozy Cole, Max Kaminsky and Jack Lesberg. Some of them were obviously well established as a team. Here are Lesberg, Kaminsky and Hucko ten years before I saw them:

Yes, I read somewhere that Mezzrow's talents were more as a supplier than as a musician. Nice there's now a New York club called Mezzrow which Rossano Sportiello described to me as a "piano room".

Those guys got around in the late 50s. Here in the UK I saw Lawrence Brown (with Duke), Peanuts Hucko (with Hines and Teagarden) and Dickie Wells (in a Buck Clayton group).

I used to play that a lot. Perhaps I should go back to my first tastes in jazz: Armstrong, Oliver, Morton, Dodds, Ory ....
