  1. Bootsie was Philly Jazz- I often headed south from New York several times per year to hear him - a real natural player.

    I heard that his grandson is a serious student of jazz writing a doctoral dissertation on Bootsie’s contribution to jazz music.

    R.I.P. Bootsie- a Philly legend loved well beyond Center City.

  2. Anyone interested in seeing a Cleveland Quartet RCA box, which would include the great recordings from the 70s and 80s as:

    Brahms - String Quartets

    Brahms-Clarinet Quintet w/ Stolzman

    Brahms- Piano Quintet w/ Ax

    Brahms- String Quintets w/ Zukerman

    Brahms-String Sextets

    Dvorak- Piano Quintet w/ Ax

    Schumann-Piano Quartet/Quintet with Ax

    Mendelssohn - Octet with Tokyo Quartet

    Ives/Barber String Quartets

    Beethoven-Complete Quartets with  Mozart/Haydn//Schubert Quartets

    plus more they recorded for RCA!

  3. Recieved email that CD Baby is no longer selling physical CDs. What a time to stop selling CDs as neighborhood CD shops are shuttered!!

    Anyone know of any other internet sites where the dinosaurs on the board, like myself, who don’t download or rip musc can still purchase physical discs of up-and coming or less well known musicians’ recordings on CD or even LP that aren’t distributed through amazon?

    Thanks - stay safe and healthy.

  4. I understand that everything has come to a standstill with COVID-19, but in trying to keep optimistic and looking ahead to better times, has anyone heard what’s happening with Mosaic issuing the Paul Desmond Toronto Quartet recordings with Ed Bickert?

    Moments after posting this question, I realized that I should have posted this question on the “Mosaic-Box sets” thread, but perhaps the “Offering and Looking for” thread is just as appropriate now as we’re all looking for something good and positive in our future.

    Safety and good health to all.

  5. I would jump at these recordings being issued as a box set by Sony Classical. Some of the LPs (3-4) have been issued as part of the New Music Quartet CD box set in 2019, but I’m still waiting for the whole series, particularly Lester Trimble - Four Fragments from the Canterbury Tales / Theodore Chanler - Nine Epitaphs which I discovered in a “free” box of records outside a local record shop 30 years ago as a student, in  mint stereo.

    Also discovered great music of Stefan Wolpe, Goddard Lieberson, Ross Lee Finney and much more in this series which is IMHO is long overdue to be issued as a box set.

    A nice bonus would also be Columbia’s recordings of Wallingford Riegger’s Piano Trio and String Quartet issued in Columbia Stereo.

    Ah!! thinking there is hope for all of this music being reissued soon...

    I was going through amazon “future releases” and just pre-ordered the Fromm Foundation 10 CD box set of recordings originally issued by Epic Records from the mid 1950s-early 1960s which is due to be released in May, 2020.

    The set includes music of:

    Luigi Dallapiccola;

    Ben Weber;

    Eliott Carter;

    Jerome Rosen and much more.

    Looking forward for the Fromm Foundation set and hope the Modern American Music Series isn’t far behind.

    If there’s any Sony Masterworks people reading this, please give this a plug and release !!

    Thanks,

    Bob

  6. Anyone have an extra copy for sale on Collectibles CD or have any leads as to a copy for sale aside from the usual internet sites  which are all trying to cash in on the Green Book movie. I remember seeing this disc not so long ago selling between $5-$8.00, including on the oldies.com site and CD shops.

    My local go-to used CD shop had  a clean/mint copy for sale around 3 months ago for $15.00 but didn’t buy it as I hadn’t seen the movie and heard his music.

    Willing to offer $15.00 or thereabouts for a clean/mint copy.

    Thanks,

    Bob
