  1. Congrats to the Sox again, Dan! So much for a Cubs/Sox WS this year.
  2. Still growing on me. Been listening to it a lot lately. A LOT! I like it a lot more than I did at the beginning of this thread. Maybe instead of "Album of the Week," we should have "Album I Don't Like." Those seems to generate more discussion!
  3. Zero pitching + zero offense = yet another losing season for the Rangers
  4. I always liked "b3-er"
  5. I have the set on now. It's really a beautifully done box, and it was $45.97 shipped for a five CD set from Amazon. In addition to the Dameron, Elmo Hope, and Ray Draper sessions, it's also missing the Red Garland sessions. Hope the third box with those sessions sees the light of day. This and 'Fearless Leader' were obviously labors of love. I'm also enjoying this set. Just as lovingly assembled as Fearless Leader, but I actually enjoy the music on this set more than the FL set. But that's just me: I enjoy jam sessions like the kind Prestige was putting out on a regular basis.
  6. With Art Pepper? Yep--also really dig their duo recordings. Do you have the Dexter Keystone sides--either as singles or the Mosaic Select? No, but I'll bet if you do a Night Lights about it, I will!
  7. Frank Sinatra SONGS FOR YOUNG LOVERS/SWING EASY, grey label Capitol pressing. Just bought it today. Incredible condition. I'm hearing things I never heard on the CD. I can hear rhythm guitar! There's piano on there! Records like this make me glad Slide_Advantage_Redoux (aka Greg) sold me his record player last year!
  8. With Art Pepper?
  9. aloc, You should've seen the look on my face when Chuck told me to read your username backwards. He, Skid, & Joe can tell you that you could've knocked me over with a feather. Or a can of Pepsi. One of my favorites from around here is "monkboughtlunch," because all along I thought it was in reference to Thelonious Monk when, in fact, it's a line from a Doors song!
  10. A good sense of humor can be the key to a speedy recovery! I'm spinning Doug Raney's BLUES ON A PAR right now. What a lovely sound Cables has. And I just realized he's on Frank Foster's MANHATTAN FEVER, so there's another reason to go spin that CD. And, of course, and has already been mentioned, I need to spin Bobby Hutcherson's Mosaic Select, since Cables is all over that. Gotta listen to this guy and find out what's happenin'! Get well soon, George!
  11. I would like to think that your friends, believers and non-believers alike, would do just that. If they didn't, if all they did was say, "Well, Chris, I'll keep you in my prayers" and left it at that, then they're just being bullshitters. I'd also like to think that, should something happen to you that you were able to communicate to the Org folks requesting help/thoughts/wishes, we'd do it. I would (I'd also say you were in my prayers as well! ), and I'm pretty sure a lot of folks around here, believers and non-believers alike, would do the same thing.
  12. I can't help but agree, even though my original post in this thread was a simple "Will do." In my defense, I just wanted to acknowledge Valerie's request and keep it as short and simple as possible. Quite honestly and FWIW, I think the most direct, heartfelt, and honest response was from Alexander:
  13. I'll have to ask my girlfriends about this one; I'm pretty sure my wife might disagree. (I'm kidding, of course; it's laughable enough to think that I could get ONE girlfriend, let alone plural. Maybe if I played her my Styx records....... )
  14. Post deleted. Thoughtless on my part. Sorry.
  15. Y'know, Chris, you could've done that regardless, and we wouldn't be having this conversation. [second paragraph deleted. Thoughtless sarcasm. I apologize.]
  16. Don't feel bad; it's always the few people who feel the need to jump in a thread such as this and voice their opinion on prayer/religion. I would guess most people either agree with you, or they don't let the word "prayer" get under their skin as much as Chris or Hans do. Personally, I'm glad you started this thread. It's always fun to watch over-zealous atheists in action.
  17. Yep, nothing like Chris's "opinion" to make Valerie & George feel that much better. Nothing like editorial opinions to help bolster a thread filled with good cheer, good wishes, and yes, prayer. Just because you don't believe in prayer doesn't make it unneccesary, any more than me believing in prayer makes it necessary. Here's a clue, Chris: THIS AIN'T ABOUT YOU. You could've very easily made your point just with the second half of your statement.
  18. Will do!
  19. I think you oughta ask chewy where he got that 8-track. Copied it off a friend's OJCs....
  20. HELLYEAH!!! I need to take this one down the highway someday!
  21. But I'm listening to side four of the Dexter Gordon 2-LP Blue Note reissue simply titled DEXTER GORDON. It's "Tanya," BTW. Wonderful, wonderful tune. Reminds me that I need to scoop up all those Dexter RVGs!
  22. I almost agree with you; I'd keep "The Times They Are A-Changin'." But otherwise, you are RIGHT on the money on this one! (I'd even throw in "Stranger in a Strange Land," but whattyagonnado?)
  23. It DOES live up to it's title, if you're using "bad" in the right way. In the words of that famous tunesmith Huey Lewis, "sometimes bad is bad." This one caused my needle to jump off the record and scream "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING TO ME? THIS IS FREAKIN' TORTURE!"
  24. IIRC, it was out as a Verve By Request CD some years back.
  25. That one is the winner for me too. I'll buy it and replace all of the individual Brown/Roach CD's. Some of the other stuff I don't have on CD at all. Same here! I don't have much Brownie to begin with, so this will be a treat!
