  1. I've been very pleased with a pair of M-Audio speakers that I've had for about ten years. I don't listen to music on my PC a lot so these have held up very well. My specific model has been upgraded to the one I've linked to: https://inmusicstore.com/m-audio-bx4-black-kevlar-120-watt-multimedia-reference-monitors.html So many wonderful choices as mentioned above. I did a lot of research. Can't remember exactly why I decided on these...
  2. uMusic has a buy two get one free sale going on right now. Most of the Tone Poet titles and the Classic Vinyl series are included. Shipping is free as well. I'm going to take the plunge on three of each as the Classics will price out at about $20 with tax while the Tone Poets are about $28. I noticed just a handful of exclusions. On a lesser jazz note the Zappa vinyl titles seem to always be excluded from discounts/promotions. I guess that the family trust wants to wring every dollar they can out of dear old dad's extensive recorded legacy.
  3. I am just starting to do vinyl again. I’d like to pick up some classic Blue Note. I see that the Tone Poet series is priced out about $38.99 everywhere I check. I know the music but are these pressings superior to the point of worth being so expensive? Thanks.
  4. Mine continues to lounge in Albuquerque...since April 15. Matt at Nimbus is being helpful and he's going to see what he can find out...I know a lot of people grumble about the post office. I've typically had good luck and I consider myself fortunate to have had very few mishaps. But I'm in a slump. The new GD Dave's Pick 46 (a highly anticipated 1972 show) arrived at the post office on 4/29 and continues to languish as it waits for "acceptance" and I've got another order from Florida that seems to be swirling around Tampa Bay for the past few weeks as well. Ugh.
  5. Mine has been in Albuquerque since April 11th. No information beyond it's moving through "network" and arriving late. At least it's arriving....
  6. Dungarees, slacks, trousers...I teach and the kids today have no idea what they are. My father who is almost 90 still calls the refrigerator the "ice box." I would guess that most people nowadays would find that a strange way to refer to their Igloo cooler.
  7. Bump- Up with price reductions. Good opportunity to combine jazz and classical sets. Thank you.
  8. Kind of a longshot here, but I have a complete set of all 38 Mosaic Select titles. A half-dozen or so are unopened. A few are marked as promos. All are in very good/excellent/mint shape. I am an iPod guy so sets which were played were typically ripped directly into iTunes and then shelved. Some sets might show some minor shelf wear. Many booklets in the opened sets are unread. I am the original owner of all sets. They are in a smoke-free home. I am asking $1250 for the set. That equates to about $33 per set. I used a combination of Discogs pricing and the final prices of sold items on ebay to arrive at this figure. Someone "late to the party" may wish to get them all at once. I feel this price is fair. I am not interested in getting into the rigmarole of selling sets individually. Sold items on ebay recently seem to range from $20 to $150 for particular sets. Discogs has some lower pricing but many sets are located out of the US and with shipping the final cost is much higher than the listing price. I typically looked at the median pricing and used a figure somewhere around that. I'm happy to send photos and discuss shipping or pick up. Please PM if interested. Thank you.
  9. My Rotel has a USB-A port that allows me to connect and Apple device.
  10. I'm a pass on this as well. While I don't have a lot of this material, listening to the Mosaic samples, the between song applause sounds more pronounced and intrusive than I recall. Blowing and cutting sessions don't hold the same allure for me that they once did. I personally like the Blue Note sets and I also hold out hope that Mosaic will do more things with other labels- something hinted at with this release as well as the inclusion of the Impulse sides on the Hubbard set? More adventurous fare like the Threadgill and Braxton would also suit my palette.
  11. Bump. Price drop to $50 plus MM cost to lower 48.
  12. Mint condition. Only the first disc was played. The liner notes were read once. Everything is excellent/mint condition. I have a significant library of Zappa titles. The single album is not one of my favorites. I wondered if this set would change my mind. Listening to disc one I quickly realized the single CD will suffice. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Asking $60 plus actual media mail cost. PayPal family or personal check for payment please. Thank you.
  13. Selling some classical sets from my collection. All boxes are in very good/excellent condition with a few exceptions noted. Many discs are unplayed while those that were were ripped to iTunes and therefore played just once. My preference is chamber music so pretty much anything that doesn't fit that bill is untouched by me...and I am the original owner of all sets. Some of these sets are very heavy. Media mail postage at cost will be added...unless you buy them all. Payment is PayPal friends and family or 100% old school with a personal check. I'm a reputable seller here without any problems I'm also an established ebay seller as jazzisgood4u. This new Paypal tax reporting thing is a pain in the nuggets. Hence my terms. If you're uncomfortable with that, I understand. Thank you for looking. 14. I dusted off my 40th anniversary copy of Woodstock to watch with my 18 year old son. It was his first time watching and while answering his many questions along the way I realized that I wanted to know more about the event myself. So I ordered a book which broke down each performance by length of set, time of set, and setlist. I was familiar with most artists but for some reason while reading the book shown below the section on Keef Hartley piqued my interest. Although I'm typically wary of groups led by drummers I sprang for this 7 CD set for about $40 and I'm very pleasantly surprised. At times the group exudes a Blood Sweat and Tears vibe (You Can't Take it With You from the live record) while the flute feature "Hickory" has an airy jazz vibe. There is also plenty of solid blues-based classic rock material included as well. Curious if anyone else is hip to this music or interested in testing the waters.
  15. Three bass players? That makes me both curious and skeptical.
  16. My charge just shows as pending. What I find interesting is that I did not receive a confirmation email for my order. I also had to set up a new account. I'm surprised that they couldn't roll over customer information into their new system. I don't think that that is a hard thing to do in 2022.
  17. I'm only missing Goin' Up but I went for this set anyway. I too am interested in the sonic improvements which I thought were noticeable on the second Mobley and Henderson sets. I sold a lot of my original Blue Note titles and replaced them with the RVGs...the audio quality being variable. I'm not an audiophile per se but having this material with top notch sound and a certain uniformity/consistency appeals to me. There is also the support Mosaic thing. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing them do some more sets like this with other Blue Note artists they haven't previously given the treatment too. The stately box, the top notch booklet. My only lament thus far on this set is the absence of a pre-order discount.
  18. Lon- that is one fine looking guitar. I just perused the net looking for one...none to be found. This is where I started with this thread- why couldn't Fender also make a JG inspired instrument that regular folks could afford? I agree with Bluesnik that I just don't get all of these guitars being made to look so road weary and old although there must be a market for them.
  19. Yes, I agree that Fender has gone to great lengths to replicate the guitar down to the smallest detail. But how about this- 100 high priced "deluxe" $20,000 editions and another 1000 of the "inspired by" $2,000 models which would obviously be toned down. I just see it as a pisser that there is such a celebration over something that would have such widespread appeal but ultimately represents just another sweet toy for the haves while the ranks of the have nots come up empty...again. I'm sure that this edition will sell out immediately, but at this price point how big is their target market? I understand that every guitar/model cannot be within the grasp of every player- and this is true for all guitar brands. It took me years to be able to drop more than 3K on my Martin, but still I'd like to see greater accessibility and an acknowledgement of the larger market that drives and supports Fender. I suppose that I'm so put off by this because this is an instrument that really interests me. A $50,000 Martin doesn't stoke my ire such as this one has. This begs a whole different discussion of the disparity of wealth and income and a justifiable sense that the deck is stacked against 99% of us. However with the forums forbidding political discussions, something with which I agree, this is a topic for a different venue.
  20. My main guitar for 35 years has been a Telecaster. Roy Buchanan was my inspiration back in the day and I've never looked back. That said, I've never taken a shine to Strats namely due to the fact that the volume knob gets in the way of my hand and I inevitably end up turning myself down (not a problem to the ears of some ). Upon seeing this beauty I decided that after forty five years it was time to buy a Strat of my very own. However, try as I may, I still couldn't get past the intrusive volume knob so I found a replacement pickguard from Warmouth that solved my problem. Going to a single tone which is an active push/pull had the end result of creating a configuration where the five way switch now has seven settings depending on the tone knob's status. As an aside, the fellow who did the work for me cries because I run 11s on my guitars. He pleads for me to stick with the 9s they come with...or offers to compromise by bumping up to tens but I stick to my guns with my trusty 11s. As a lefty I have a heavy hand and I enjoy digging into those thick joyous wires. I'm really pleased with this guitar now.
  21. I find it so disappointing that many of these custom reissues are so expensive. $20,000? That shuts out the average guitarist. Thus this limited issue of 100 guitars will go to collectors, investors, and the upper echelon of players and society with money to burn. I get that it seems as though a great deal of time, detail, and energy has gone into this but really. 1000 guitars at $2000 each would yield the same two million dollars of revenue as the 100 guitars at 20K. Alas it is a pipe dream that I will ever own one of these, let alone even see one or play it. Garcia Strat News Release
  22. I first came to know of Giorgio through this box set. I took a chance on it and was pleasantly surprised to discover an artist who was previously unknown to me but whose music I enjoyed immensely. Poking around today this set isn't quite as inexpensive as when I purchased it, but I heartily recommend it to the initiated and uninitiated alike. It provides a lot of bang for your buck.
