  1. I've seen transcriptions of Steve Gadd's solo/solos from the title track off Aja floating around the net so I know they have to be somewhere! Can anyone hook me up? I can't remember if they were really accurate or not, but if anyone knows about any kind of music for this at all I would be most appreciative. Let's just see if I can nail it in 2 takes like he did..
  2. When I really try and hit the shed, I might be practicing about 4 hours a day. But between classes, rehearsals, numerous other time-takers, that's almost all my free time! There just ain't enough hours in the day.

Meh, I like em. I think my avatar is Next (I never post here!). I'm seeing them this Saturday at the 9:30 Club in D.C.
  4. Yea, I feel you, it seems like every time I go to Plan 9 there's an Iggy Pop song on. I mean Iggy Pop I can do sometimes, but look, give it a rest. Downstairs in the used EPs and LPs section they know their shit though
  5. Why the hell is it so good?!?!? The album flows like a river. The expression coming from every musician on here is almost too much to comprehend. I get these images of just absolute no-holds-barrededness, where every little whim and thought is forced out of an instrument into this giant, pulsating mass. Elvin Jones' brilliant comping on Part 1 alone takes the entire song to a whole new level. It is what jazz drumming should ideally be, in my mind; the big, engulfing, and accenting backbeat to more than just the song but the entire atmosphere and message. McCoy Tyner also gets 3 big thumbs up. The way he holds on to everything and is totally in there with every little thing that Trane did on his solos, you can just hear how he progressed throughout the whole album, getting into the right mindset, and settling in. Anyway I thought I'd make a topic to blow a load or two about it. Feel free to hate! EDIT: I totally meant to put this in "Artists."
  6. Slipknot, one of the greats! 7 drummers and a singer! (In defense of metal, I want to say that no metal band should ever be that stupid)
  7. Well as long as we're branching out from the said Bop and Hard Bop genres I want to include Dennis, Babatunde Olatunji, Akira Jimbo, and El Negro. (Look, affirmative action!! I'm not racist I swear!!)
  8. Tony Williams and Elvin Jones have been my idols for so long...but also Boo, Max Roach, Roy Haynes, Philly Joe, and Jack DeJohnette. New guys are Louis Nash and Smitty Smith.
  9. I was always all about Mickey Hart man. Mickey Hart was the one who led me into studying the spirituality of music, ethnomusicology, and percussive roots. Mickey Hart is an idol and The Dead rock. 8). You don't get much more in control and just flowing than them.
  10. Stevie Wonder was by far the best ping pong player I've ever heard of. I saw him playing with Ray Charles once, it was intense.
  11. Last night I found a "Fia Fiaga" recording by Vital Information in the $1.00 bin. It's been out of print for years! It looks like a radio promo, because it has a big "SALE IS UNLAWFUL" stamp on the bar code. Good stuff B-)
