  1. I really like Hub Cap, but I might be biased. I'm a fan of Julian Priester and particularly of Jimmy Heath, so their presence on the album might be affecting my judgment. The featured review on AllMusic calls Hub Cap a "lesser effort" when compared to some of his other albums, so take my opinion for what you will.
  2. Ahh, thanks. Might have to let it go then. Grabbing a few sets during the recent out-of-print buying frenzy has left me short on current funds. Guess I'll have to start saving my pennies for the Bennie Green set instead. (I want the Green set more than the Weston, but the Weston did sound interesting.)
  3. Although I know it can vary, how long does a set tend to hang around in "Last Chance"?
  4. Thanks for the good word, and glad to hear you got a shipment notice! I can confirm that I received my Brookmeyer set from Jazz Loft yesterday. I believe I got the shipment e-mail on Friday, which means it was reasonably fast shipping for media mail. I'm probably going to regret not trying to get a Dexter Gordon set from someplace, but I was fortunate enough to acquire all of the OOP sets I really wanted (Bud Shank, Bob Brookmeyer, John Patton, Carmell Jones). Need to give my wallet a little time to recover! (And I still have my eye on grabbing a Bennie Green set sometime before they disappear.)
  5. I think they are the same. I actually asked the customer service rep about this when I cancelled my order, but they didn't respond to my question. On the plus side, I think I found a copy someplace else. MellowT, I just tried to send you a PM, but I'm not sure it went through. Let me know.
  6. Yep, it figures. I was on here a couple of days ago praising Movie Mars and saying I had never had an issue with multiple CD orders...and now they just e-mailed that the Bob Brookmeyer set was out of stock. Guess their orders came in faster than they could update stock. That's really annoying. Wonder how many other Brookmeyer sets I missed the chance to grab while waiting on them?
  7. Well, I can't seem to improve my "percentage" any... I finally managed to locate an affordable Bud Shank set, which is likely on it's way to me. Yay! However, I have a bad feeling that my Bob Brookmeyer set is about to fall through. Nuts.
  8. This wasn't by chance Keenzo, was it? They apparently just packed up my John Patton set, even though the initial credit card authorization has mysteriously vanished from my account. In any case, they gave me a tracking number over the phone, so hopefully the Patton is a go. It figures that I quite literally ordered my first EVER Mosaic sets a week before this whole mess happened. I can't afford the big sets, but I had targeted six of the Selects: Curtis Amy and Charles Tolliver (which I received right as the mess occurred) Carmell Jones (ordered the day I learned of the problems, and since received) John Patton (hopefully on its way) Bob Brookmeyer (on order, but I'm worried because I've not gotten confirmation) Bud Shank (looks like I won't be able to get this) Guess I should consider myself lucky if I'm able to get five of the six sets I wanted. The Bud Shank was actually the "lowest" on my list, though the sound samples on Amazon and AllMusic make it sound quite good.
  9. Uh oh. Maybe my complete failure to acquire the Bud Shank set from anyplace (at least, at a cost I can afford) has made me pessimistic, but this sounds like they're planning to acquire it from another seller and then ship it to you. All well and good...assuming they can find it from another seller. Best of luck. Edited to add: I mentioned a bit earlier in this thread that I've always gotten what I ordered from Movie Mars. Unfortunately, in those orders, I've never received an e-mail regarding such a delay. Selfishly, your message makes me a bit nervous for myself too. My Bob Brookmeyer set is on order from them, and I have yet to receive a shipment notice on it...
  10. For what it's worth, I have ordered numerous times previously from Movie Mars and never had any issues. Their shipping notifications (and actual shipping) have been a bit slower recently, but I have always gotten what I ordered.
  11. Good point. That makes me feel a bit better.
  12. Thanks for the tip. I jumped right over there to place an order for the elusive Bud Shank. Unfortunately, it comes up on my order as "ships in 2-3 days." Since I suspect that might mean "we'll get you one from the manufacturer," I'm not too hopeful...
  13. I'm currently trying out the Charles Tolliver set, which I just received a couple of days ago. Man, I'm not usually a big fan of bass solos, but some of these are amazing!
  14. I just called Keenzo myself. I had ordered the Bud Shank and John Patton sets yesterday. Apparently the Shank is also a no-go, but the woman said she could send me the Patton. At least that's something! Since I jumped into ordering from this site much quicker than I usually do with an online site, hopefully my partial refund won't prove to be an issue...
  15. Agreed. The store I bought mine at has a strict "no returns" policy. Even if I do still have my receipt, they're not going to take it back. And really, why should they? It wasn't their mistake. Blue Note should be fixing this directly, not dumping the responsibility on the stores or the buyers who purchased the defective CDs in good faith. If that's really their only response, then it's very poor customer service.
  16. Can't say for sure. What's odd is that a couple of secondary sellers are currently selling CD-Rs of Donald Byrd's Mustang! through Amazon...but this does NOT appear to be one of the group that Blue Note just released. Wonder if they actually have permission to do so. (And I have no actual evidence one way or another, so I'm not accusing them of anything.)
  17. Only those of us not paying attention. (Personally, I wasn't blaming Amazon, other than for the mis-stapling of the booklet.) That's good to hear! Now that I've accidentally bought one, I'm kind of inclined to see what other ones I might want (though you're right that the prices are on the high side).
  18. Hi all. Long-time lurker, first-time poster here. Just had to chime in and say, "Yep, they got me." I recently got back "into" listening to jazz, and I've been adding a lot of CDs from Amazon to fill some gaps in my collection. I had noted a couple of Blue Note titles that were CD-R and skipped them, but I missed the fact that Duke Pearson's Wahoo! was such a reissue. When I received the CD, I did note the fact that the booklet staples were straight through the middle of the front cover (not at the spine), but I wrote it off as a Blue Note manufacturing defect. Now I know it was an Amazon manufacturing defect! Oh well. I copied the disc straight to my iTunes library and then put the disc into storage, so hopefully the sound quality is fine, even if the CD-R has issues down the road. P.S. Thanks to everyone for some very entertaining reading in the time I've been lurking.
