  1. Thanks for the reply, it's great to see what the original covers looked like...The Sonny one is really cool, not so sure about Kenny's though.
  2. I'm quite impressed I managed to get my sock into the photo as well. So was this ever released on Impulse? I have read the history of Blue Note's various owners, but I have no idea of Impulse's history.
  3. I think mjzee mentioned this one in his list, I managed to pick this great two for one recently for £5 Great sound an apparently Michael Cuscana was responsible for this bargin
  4. I saw a Sonny Rollins "Freedom Suite" two for lp today, now I know very little Sonny so is this a set for beginners in his huge catalogue?
  5. I found an unusual Art Pepper two for in Japan recently called "Early Art" on Blue Note. What surprised me was as far as I know Art was never on Blue Note, and these tracks are early tracks. I love my Bill Evans Village Vanguard & Miles "Relaxin" & "Walkin" two for's I think some people get to hung up on the originals, these pressings have great sound & are nearly always bargain priced

    Art Pepper

Surprised no one has mentioned this audiophile vinyl release of Art at Ronnie Scotts http://www.musicangle.com/album.php?id=963 Apparently Pure Pleasure were trying to recreate the Mole Jazz releases but couldn't work out which versions were used so decided to release everything over 7 disks. I just wish I had the money to buy this!!!
  7. I almost bought the vinyl of this today...glad I gave it a miss now....keep up the good work of pointing out the albums to avoid!
  8. In the UK the wardens have to provide a photo of the car commiting the offence, I would go with prove my car was there defence and ask them for documentary evidence apart from the ticket that an offence did in fact occur.
  9. Earlier in the year I read that Ashley Khan was working on a history of Blue Note called Something Else, and looking on Amazon UK it had a publishing date of 30th September. But now all trace of it has disappeared, nothing on Amazon or Viking books site. Does anybody know when it will be released, as I really fancy a copy?
  10. I knew there must have been a reason for Willie turning up as the main character in an episode of "Monk" when I watched it last week....it's Blue Note new marketing push!
  11. I think your right most musicians I've known haven't had the greatest of record collections....those who can play...play... those who can't listen & collect! I guess I love to listen to so much music because I can't play a note and therefore it just seems like complete magic to me. How you can rate the popularity of any given musician at a particular moment in time throughout the world must keep the guys at the labels awake at night...or maybe its a case if you build it they will come.
  12. I'm really surprised when people say they haven't heard of Hank Mobley for gods sake he played with Miles Davis, The Jazz Messengers and if you look on a whole heap of Blue Note's if you just read the covers!
  13. It's a shame I thought there would be more support to collect all Hank's great 60's output in one place, as the reissues keep coming & going out of print. Luckily enough I get to go to Japan once a year and can usually find some of the out of print stuff there (maybe that's where Hank's fans are!) As to what is considered popular in any other field of the music industry the figures achieved by jazz sales would be meet by disbelief and much shaking of heads. It does beg the question of what would have enough support for Mosiac to do a release as looking at their catalogue a lot of the big boys have already been done....and for a company to survive you need to issue new product regularly.
  14. I'm really surprised that the 50's Mobley sold so slowly, maybe as a large number of people think his 60's output was better they should have gone with some form of 60's ouput (maybe not complete..but best of?) Also Hank's popularity is growing with a new book just issued...maybe it's time to try again after all its 10 years since the last one!
  15. I was wondering if Mosiac are considering producing a Hank Mobley Blue Note 60's box set to follow on from their brillant 50's sessions box set? There must still be some unissued Hank tracks from all those great albums he recorded in the 60's to get the collectors interested, and it would make a greatstart to a collection for those people new to Hank's music.
