  1. Question: What clubs in the U.S. still have that vintage smoky ambiance/feel? Not that I want to set myself up for a series of lectures about the negatives of smoke from the perspective of the musician or patron.....but I actually like that kind of environment.....and it sure ain't Blues Alley, Jazz Standard, Birdland, etc.. Where, other than the JazzKeller in Frankfurt, is the smoke-filled 50's club?
  2. Damn, Conn, all I have left is a burn of the JRVG! There'll be hell to pay for this when I hit the Capitol Beltway this morning!! B-) B-)
  3. Yes, quite...........and a nice review by Alon as well.
  4. 'Little Girl Blue' is a nice tune to have on while sitting before a cozy fireplace.
  5. Brahms - 'Klavierquartett A-DUR OP.26' - Beaux Arts Trio (Philips)
  6. Yep.....can't stand it.
  7. I'm sure, as you say, that they gouge you when certain folks show up......but $20 to see Herb Geller seems reasonable....and is probably a good bit less than what we'll shell out for Wallace Roney/Geri Allen tix next month at Blues Alley here in D.C. Hmmmmm......$60 for Eartha Kitt tix anyone? http://www.jazzkeller.com/programm/nextmonth.htm
  8. I've not yet seen an episode of 'Six Feet Under' but was thinking about diving into one the DVD boxes. I noticed that some of the early reviews around this place gave the show pretty high marks...and then the tide seemed to turn. Best to just check out the season 1 episodes (2002?) and then drop it?
  9. You don't say? Sounds incredibly handy! Say, Chris, while you're out and about the next couple of days taking snapshots of Christo's chiffon, mind if I have Ludmilla go to work on my Mercedes for a bit? I'm looking at a slow leak in the steering gear box, another in the steering shock absorber and a tiny one somewhere in the transmission area. If she could bleed the steering system, replace the gear box, the steering shock, a trans connector, a couple of seal rings ....and perform a quick 4 wheel alignment, I'd be eternally grateful. Shouldn't take more than 5 or 6 hours tops.
  10. I was draining some red wine around the outdoor fireplace last night with a few neighbors and one Christo infatuated couple said they were going to Volvo it on up there bright & early this morning to check it out. I'll be interested to hear what they have to say next Fri. nite after a couple of glasses of Zinfandel. I asked her why Christo and the wife don't fly around together (unusual for those with grown children, yes?)..and she went on about the need for a (hypothetical) 'survivor' to carry on the legacy, etc. I dunno.
  11. Jesus! ....no central air in that place of yours, Chris? How long does it take for you to lower the water bucket down into the well and hoist 'er back up?
  12. I'm bored....when the hell is Johnny coming back from maternity leave?? B-)
  13. I don't think so either. If you order Venus cds from a Japanese outfit, the jewel boxes always run a few bucks more than the paper......but oddly enough, if you buy them here, the reverse is often the case.
  14. Fool! Now that we know where that set's going, you think we won't be able to intercept it?? http://www.grsites.com/sounds/18791905/air...aircraft009.wav http://www.grsites.com/sounds/18791905/air...aircraft021.wav http://www.grsites.com/sounds/18791905/air...aircraft009.wav
  15. ...and 1st to Ireland (because he held her hand)
  16. I'll do whatever it takes to get the 4th place ribbon in the 'Husband of the Year' contest. Last year, if you'll recall, the 3rd place ribbon went to Albania.
  17. I'm a bit short in the 'ol coinage dept these days. But.... I have an 8x10 autographed photo of O.J. when he was with San Francisco at the end. Can I send that along with $375 cash to either of you?
  18. Geez, that's a nice chunk of oak. I'm surprised it survived the period immediately following The Seven Years War when France went into mad scramble mode trying to replace 90% of the fleet that had been sent to the bottom. Even at 100 years old in 1780, they could have used it to make a few timbers here....maybe a few casks for booze there.....whatever. You can never have too many casks lying around.....just ask the guys who brought Admiral Nelson's body back from Trafalgar in one.
  19. Thanks for the sugestions, folks. I decided to add "Someday My Prince" & "Autumn Leaves" to the bag w/"S Wonderful". The other pair that look intriguing are those live "At the Village Vanguard" dates from 1978 that are only available as imports...although I noticed over at CD Universe a pre-release special for a "At the Village Vanguard" due out in March. I wonder if this is another re-issue of "At the Village Vanguard, Again" or if they've squeezed the aforementioned Vols 1 & 2 onto a single disc? East Wind did that about 4 years ago when they released a limited edition gold disc, a copy of which showed up on eBay about 2 months back.
  20. I'd like to pick up the 'Pike's Peak'. Anyone heard the Walter Bishop?
  21. Thanks, Tjobbe.
  22. Ooooo, that's nice.....I'm all over that one!
