  1. Brownie, I agree with you about Powell on the English LP.....'Heavy Soul' is a sweet one indeed. I also like that little bass solo of Martin Revere's on the first track. They say that he played w/J. Watkins and Rouse.....but poor Martin doesn't seem to rank even a footnote over at AMG. They list a Martin Rivera though. Lon, I snapped a quick photo of the re-issue copy...guess they dropped the 'Introducing' bit on these ones. This and the Burns aren't exactly BN eye catching covers...but I like the b/w & a dab of color simplicity of these ones. The 'Warming Up' title is in red.
  2. Picked this one up about 2 years ago and only recently (few nights back actually) gave it some heavy duty spinning. Wow! Pure toe-tapping fun! This one may only be out on vinyl (Dusty Groove carries it from time to time in the $10 range.) ....nothing terribly adventurous just a slew of upbeat, uplifting tunes (like the latiny 'Richie's Dilema') delivered by a great crew: Hutcherson, Mabern, Billy Mitchell, Al Grey, etc..
  3. Bud Shank "New Groove" (Pacific)......does Peacock smoke on 'White Lightnin' or what?!
  4. No problem, Ghost!! I arm-twisted Albertson into issuing some sort of special Dem issue 'safe passage' i.d. badge. It's a little clunky lookin' but it'll do the trick!!
  5. Anyone ever popped into either of these places? Would you recommend one over the other? Doesn't look like there's any outside seating at the first place...any at the 2nd? As always...many thanks. http://www.zumschneider.com/beers.htm http://www.loreleynyc.com/
  6. Well, I decided to get off the dime and send a note to them. Word back is that this is "a real possibility". Apparently the good folks at Mosaic have already had conversations with Gibbs about going down this road....sounds like this one could come together nicely. This'll be a great set!
  7. Looks like they re-issued this one (UCCU-5232) in June but the site I checked listed only 7 tracks. The last domestic re-issue in ('97?) had 3 bonus tracks (gypsy without a song, I got it bad, it don't mean a thing..). Have they really re-issued this w/o those 3 bonus tracks?
  8. I stop anywhere from 9:45 to 10:15 and then have dinner....and not a drop after that. Oh, this is about caffeine? Sorry, I thought it was about brew.
  9. 'Karioka' from Hubbard's "Goin' Up"
  10. There ya go Rachel...that's the ticket! I think the 16 oz can works best w/a larger bird....been using Henninger Pils and also the Guiness draft cans. I like the idea of placing lemon slices beneath the skin....have to try that.
  11. If you want perfect moist tender chicken then hit the grill and go the beer can chicken route. Season a full chicken w/olive oil, onion powder, little chili powder & some garlic. Take a 16 oz can of beer...pour half of it into a pie tin and poke holes with a can opener around the top of the can. Heat the coals and then spread them around the perimeter of the pie tin. Ram the half-full can of beer up ye 'ol chicken and stand it right up on its legs on the grill above the pie tin. Toss a bit of hickory chips on the coals, close the cover and give it about 1hr 15 min using indirect heat. Beer helps steam it from the inside. The best.
  12. I think I'd like to pick up the Trio-San 'BeBop' cd listed on this Venus site....but am wondering about that TKGV catalogue number. The Venus cds I've purchased in the past -- jewel box or mini-lp -- all have a TKCV designation. My guess is that it's not vinyl or it'd show up as TKJV....but perhaps they've changed things a bit and it's a new vinyl line. My jewel box copy of the Hazeltine 'ALice in Wonderland' is a TKCV...yet the Venus site also has it listed as TKGV. Hard to imagine a series of typos on their own site...but anything's possible. Anyone picked up that Trio-San ? http://www.venusrecord.com/recent/index.html
  13. Well my ears certainly perked up when I heard Ianci...and at 10:30 am precisely, I'll be passin' the love to someone else's ears.
  14. I have a small stash of about 9 cd-rs & cassettes for the little portable jobber out in Minnesota that I just play over & over again ( Elmo Hope Quintet, Harold Land 'West Coast Blues', Thad Jones "Det.-NY', Sam Jones 'Chant', Jay Jay ....and some Shelly Manne Blackhawk stuff). The cd-rs get popped into a desk drawer for safe keeping.....& the cassettes (all w/o cases) I just stick on the tips of an 8-point Whitetail deer rack that's hanging on the cabin wall.
  15. A couple of Getz titles from the Verve Jap. collection --- 'Stan Getz At Large'......and 'Imported From Europe'.
  16. AAJ? Why doesn't he just parachute into the BN Europe board, post a bit and try to give that wheezing board a sorely needed rush of adrenaline? Always fun to see what happens... B)
  17. Fear not, at least some of your messages have been getting through........yep, sitting right there at the bottom of a recent HT note regarding TOCJs. B) Hmmm, must be confusing 'Reinier' with 'Rolf' again....must be some mini-lp fixation 'thing' that has him all confused. Was my note to him about the National Cherry Blossom Festival attached to an email to you?
  18. Too bad they ditched their old website with the bold-looking burlesque lass w/sax as a logo.
  19. A Harold Harris cd on eBay
  20. Better than the Rush show? Hhhm...probably........nice acoustics.
  21. Not as animated as the Rush show....but still enjoyable. One should never miss an opportunity to help out the Khusrau Society.
