  3. AMEN! "I gave up on this dream a long time ago." ......but you still love it with your heart, soul, and dollars. thank you.
  4. rich conaty was recounting vince giordano's band last tuesday night performing some first time sight-playing big band charts from the 30s. is sight reading done in solo, group, and band competitions? to a nonmusician, it would seem that this could make for some remarkably memorable and forgettable experiences.
  5. dozens were rushing into our ymca this morning at 8, precisely when the sun was breaking over the horizon. it troubled me that no one stopped to look at a 3 minute sunrise............ this song came to mind. for free
  6. after finishing recording my broadcasts for the week, saturday and half of sunday are days of silence. i treasure them.
  7. in the late 60s-early 70s, i recall going to the music store 2 or 3 times a day for my newest 'fix'. now, i go(online) maybe 5 times a year. has the music changed, or have i?
  8. yours is the big O post of the year. thank you.
  9. one might need an electron microscope.
  10. a tabulation of sales numbers would be interesting. john hollenbeck did an award winning release a very few years ago which i dont think sold 500 copies.
  11. at least 5000 vinyl albums, perhaps a thousand cds, and, on external hard drives, virtually all of laz weekday shows since he came online in 2005, all of thewnur weekday morning jazz shows (7 or 8 hours a day), 6 weekday hours daily of wkcr jazz programs for 3 years, and innumerable tribute broadcasts. for example i have the complete wkcr bach festival the past 2 years(24 hours per day for 11 or 12 days each year), not that i'm a fanatic or anything.
  12. that's a wrap
  13. you are either the lowe man on the totem pole or the totem's TOuPee.
  14. Not many clunkers in that list! i'm more partial to the rereleases, not the least of which are air and dameronia.
  15. voice jazz critics poll
  16. the elderly senile aloc hasn't a clue on photography, if schumann, brahms, bach, beethoven, bartok, monk, miles, evans, or berlioz had cameras the equal of ours, what would we have seen!!!!!!!!
  17. the sun 'sets' on another year
  18. thanks for the article. the overly sweetened cti recordings weren't at all to to my taste, with several notable exceptions, but mr.taylor is certainly a key, albeit mercurial figure in committing to wax these essential artists.
  19. totally disagree. THis might have been true 30 years ago, but now American Micobrews routinely win taste awards even in Europe. This article shows ignorance or arrogance not sure which. People who really know beer know that American brews are very flavorfull and certainly more varied than even in, dare I say it, Denmark. although we do make many extraordinary, the taste for the vast majority of americans is for dreck and swill. hey, that parallels the general musical taste. i've ordered 2 -6ers of otter creek black ipa, one of my favorite beer styles. black ipa makers
  20. at age 67, i can return to work without a social security penalty. i may "consider" working then.
