  1. the piano tuner is now giving a sterling live performance. i'm guessing harold maybern couln't play it the way it was. that's it!!!!! the mabern trio is recording tonight.
  2. let's not forget small town reporter sarah ganim's role in exposing this story. our worthless big national media and personnel couldn't research and develop a news story with a real edge and get it straight if it hit them alongside their pompous heads. sarah ganim wins pulitzer prize
  3. ....kind of like the way we rave about still active old jazz superstars, 40 years past their prime?
  4. how about those drives to the basket when the stars take 7, more or less, steps without a dribble??? "that's my move."
  5. i would love to have heard monk's take on "Indian blues."
  6. The majority of this perfectly describes why I pretty much stopped watching the NCAA tournament several years ago. By the way, you build up the ticky-tack touch fouls early in the game, on the better players on the (west coast; or underdog) team you're screwing. to my eyes, NBA officiating is barely one step above the WWE, and has been for a long long time.

  9. letter from david lowery "Emily: My intention here is not to shame you or embarrass you. I believe you are already on the side of musicians and artists and you are just grappling with how to do the right thing. I applaud your courage in admitting you do not pay for music, and that you do not want to but you are grappling with the moral implications. I just think that you have been presented with some false choices by what sounds a lot like what we hear from the “Free Culture” adherents. I must disagree with the underlying premise of what you have written. Fairly compensating musicians is not a problem that is up to governments and large corporations to solve. It is not up to them to make it “convenient” so you don’t behave unethically. (Besides–is it really that inconvenient to download a song from iTunes into your iPhone? Is it that hard to type in your password? I think millions would disagree.) Rather, fairness for musicians is a problem that requires each of us to individually look at our own actions, values and choices and try to anticipate the consequences of our choices. I would suggest to you that, like so many other policies in our society, it is up to us individually to put pressure on our governments and private corporations to act ethically and fairly when it comes to artists rights. Not the other way around. We cannot wait for these entities to act in the myriad little transactions that make up an ethical life. I’d suggest to you that, as a 21-year old adult who wants to work in the music business, it is especially important for you to come to grips with these very personal ethical issues." item continues with link-----

  16. I saw that group at Smalls a year or so ago and I very much enjoyed; their two recent worthy recordings on Steeplechase are Forsooth and Heavy Mirth. tim armacost filled in on sax.
  17. i enjoyed 2 jack walrath shows last night. he takes his gigging much more seriously than most artists. this is a lovely, lovely quintet. Jack Walrath - Trumpet Abraham Burton - Tenor Sax Orrin Evans - Piano Boris Kozlov - Bass Jimmy Madison - Drums i cannot give enough compliments of pianist orrin evans. his effortless mastery of the keyboard, fountain of ideas, and flat out ability to swing is a RARE delight.
  18. i got their last sheet. brownie's remarks notwithstanding, the davis-piaf release is a joint issue of france and u.s.
  19. c u acquires glenn miller archives The Glenn Miller Archive at the University of Colorado Boulder American Music Research Center has acquired one of the world’s most significant collections of Big Band Era recordings and memorabilia. The Ed Burke Collection – named for its shepherd and founder – contains approximately 1,400 reel-to-reel tapes containing hundreds of hours of live radio programs featuring virtually every musician of major importance during the Big Band Era.
  20. Yeah - But the man still averaged 48.5 minutes per game, 50.4 ppg, and 25.7 rpg. No one did it before him. No one's done it since. You can say what you want. It still doesn't take anything away from what the man did that year. 48.5 minutes per game. Who else will ever match that? agreed, paul.
