  1. Nice poster! Which font is that? Cheers!
  2. VERY nice, John!
  3. I just had a look at their site. Lots of inspiration there. Thanks! Here are some I pulled off quickly: Cheers!
  4. Yeah, they look nice. Thanks! Have just completed the first draft for the Roulette Studio set (wanted it to look very different ... still too geometrical ... I've got it with shapes ). But now I've got other stuff to do. Will continue next week. Cheers! (Edit: probably won't use it because the layout will just eat too much black ink ...)
  5. Who/what is that? (I hope I don't have any of it at home ) Cheers!
  6. Thanks! I love playing with this stuff. I would like to do a lot more design work, but then my ways are probably thrice as convoluted as anyone else's (my Photoshop skills are VERY basic). Still, I also have tons of design books standing around here (packaging/letterheads/newspapers/brochures/furniture/industrial design/etc.) and I always get good ideas from them. I can look at those for hours. I've also bought books just because I liked their layout (and wanted to study it). Usually, I was at least half-lucky with the content as well. I think I'll try something a bit more lively next. Cheers!
  7. Oh, by the way, the Canon can print directly onto CDs. I'm using Taiyo Yuden printables which can be printed onto from the very edge (minus a milimeter) right to the center. Cool stuff ... and good quality as far as I can tell. Cheers!
  8. Hi everyone, I bought myself a Canon Pixma 4000 printer, some Avery inlay and cover labels, and went to work. Took pictures of it (not all that good, I'm afraid) with my spankin' new Canon Ixus 30 camera (still learning the basics). As a first project I took the first CD from the Count Basie Live Roulette Mosaic set and burned a backup copy, just for the hell of it (I actually used it because I have all the info typed up, taken from some thread here). I love playing around with this stuff (while listening to good music), and intend to make many more, just to relax when things get too stressing. I also bought myself the printer so I can actually print out some of the stuff I have done in the past (illustrated short stories, calling cards, calendars, etc.). The CD (below) uses a basic layout (hence the deus62) I use for private burns. The front: The back: The CD: Do you have any home-made stuff that isn't actually some Photoshop job for some other thread, but in use? I wouldn't mind seeing some images, if you have any. Cheers!
  9. I've been on the lookout for that gold one. I know it's available from amazon.com, but German customs have really taken the fun out of ordering which I used to do for many years - now I've virtually stopped. I'll keep looking, though. ELLA AT JUAN-LES-PINS I have. Cheers, and thanks!
  10. Hi everyone, I'm looking for some recommendations. a) I want to stock up on my Ella Fitzgerald stuff and want to start with her early years with Chick Webb and later her Savoy Eight. Am I right in assuming that the two Verve double CDs are the way to go? Or are there other and or/ better-sounding editions? b) Next to the Verve Songbooks, are there one or two other recordings you can recommend (f. ex. with Flanagan, or whomever)? Thanks for your help. Cheers!
  11. Thanks. I'll go huntin'. Cheers!
  12. Could you recommend one or two CDs by Sutton in the same vein?
  13. I took it off a web page for the concert I saw. They, in return, pulled it off Achim Goetter's page, who plays with Kaczynski on and off. If you go to this page (http://www.act-art.de/multimedia.htm) you'll find a photo of the two playing together right at the top of the page. Achim Goetter got the photo off Kaczynski's page. It can also be found there (http://www.xray-k.com/photos.htm). As to where/when it was taken, I have no idea. Cheers! Edited: added links
  14. This has nothing to do with arrogance. It has something to do with protecting or warning the people who drop in here and start strutting their stuff. After they've read this, they can't say they haven't been warned ... and Chuck Nessa doesn't have to post the same one-liners again and again. Besides, I think those points are valid for just about any board and basically address issues which should be common sense in the first place. And Punk happened because it was a license to party, to take a leak off the stage and to make tons of money while only being able to play one single chord. Cheers!
  15. Couldn't resist ....
  16. Thanks for this thread, Big Al!! It's been long overdue!! I wish I could have posted the great finds of the past year. There were plenty. And since I raided just about every second-hand shop for about eight years here, most of the real finds (you know, the ones that fell behind the counter and the ones that were simply in the totally wrong place, some back room or elsewhere) are gone. Now it's just that I have to be in the right place at the right time which, unfortunately, rarely happens anymore. Too busy. I love hunting around for second-hand stuff, but I live near a city with lots of good jazz and lots of jazz fans, so the competition is tough. Cheers!
  17. Ralph Sutton. Wondrous Piano. The private family recordings - 1961. Arbors Records 2003. Added this one and some other piano stuff to my list after having read Agustín's recommendation in the, as far as I recall, stride pianists thread. Paid 1 Euro for it today. After having heard it, I would have paid about 15 times that ... or more. Wonderful stuff. Cheers! P.S.: I wonder if I'll ever get tired of this kind of music. I have tons of these (Teddy Wilson, Oscar Peterson, Hank Jones, ....) and have been listening to especially these for years now. I never really had a moment where I said: "Enough!" Maybe I wasn't in the mood for it here and there, but I've never stopped enjoying this kind of music to the fullest. Edit: Included image.
  18. Now if that ain't one post which should be made sticky, I don't know which one is. Good points! Cheers!
  19. Do I get mine first as well?
  20. I'm always looking around for ideas because I like to get my homemade CDs and DVDs a bit spiffed up. If you are willing to spend a bit more money on cases, inlets etc., these things are brilliant (and no, I'm in no way associated with the people, the company, or the product(s) they sell; I just think it's cool stuff.) http://www.jewelboxing.com/ Cheers!
  21. The Bollani/Bodilsen/Lund is a fantastic album!!!!! I'm also a big fan of Jesper and Morten who were stellar in Casper Villaume's Quartet (their first CD was a real discovery whereas the folliwng one was rather weak). I saw them live in a small café (it's actually more a bar) called "Sommersko" in downtown Copenhagen and it was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. And I've seen lots. Those two are so good together (Ed Thigpen has worked with them regularly both as a teacher and in various groups) that they remind me of powerhouse rhythm sections of times long gone. Cheers!
  22. I also have the Rhino Disco Box. It all falls into the greater category of the "aesthetics of bad taste". If you like disco you also watch the all-time classic, "Plan 9 from Outer Space", again and again and again, and do other silly stuff. You gotta have some fun. Cheers!
  23. Call me weird, but I'm a fan of James Taylor. Love most of his stuff ... and have it as well. Cheers! Hair Bands? Hairwise he fits (I think by now he must have blow-dried himself to death) ...
  24. I'll take everything I can get my greedy hands to latch onto. I've said it many times: I haven't participated properly for quite a while (because of that, I'll try to make it up to everyone with a nice disc which I will handle myself ... might relieve my bad conscience), but I find these discs to be of magnificient value when it comes to really discovering new music I had been previously unaware of ... or which people recommended but I hadn't heard yet. There's nothing more convincing than a good tune which makes me run to hit amazon or any other outlet. Bring it on! Cheers!
  25. Mine is on the way. 1 The Complete Verve Sessions (Mosaic Records) [bOX SET] [Audio CD] Farlow,Tal Here in 7 to 15 days. Let's see if they can break their last record which sped the delivery up so it reached me 4 days later. Cheers! (Since this is probably a bigger box, I wonder if German customs are going to catch this one and delay things by, err, a year or two. )
