Hey Skid! Look what comes out tomorrow!
neveronfriday replied to Big Al's topic in Miscellaneous Music
That one made me laugh. And, it is absolutely true. I hope I'm not totally wrong here, but that's that 90s high school TV series, isn't it? If yes, I know what you're talking about. Cheers! -

Big Al: That is a perfectly good explanation (that I can subscribe to). Thanx! This is what I wrote before I read that: Let me clarify a bit. a) I have a bad-hair day today. b) Some people just like to barge in and take a dump on music other people might like. It has become quite a common thing here. They don't care at all about the others maybe reading their posts (or, better, they do care) and they don't give it a second thought. There are people on this board who like Styx (use the search function or go to any of the other boards to have a look) and all you are telling them, in as brutally a fashion as possible, is that they just suck. Not good style. Especially if you do so from a (sometimes) seemingly superior but at least respected vantage point (and that is the way I see you guys). Sorry, but I think that's not a good way to go. A little respect for other people's tastes, even if you totally disagree, I think, is good style. c) I like all kinds of music. I might go overboard sometime, but I try not to. I actually used to like Styx - about 20 something years ago - simply because they delivered a great live show and I got my money's worth. Haven't really listened to them since. Although I would agree with the sentiments uttered here, I wouldn't say so in a way it was spelled out here. Cheers! -

Why is it actually that you guys are so damn arrogant? And no, I'm not a particular Styx fan. Cheers! -
caiman or casacaiman on Amazon or half
neveronfriday replied to dova's topic in Offering and Looking For...
So will I. I ordered that one too. Let's see how they manage that one. I'll report back as well, from good ol' Germany. Cheers! P.S.: I ordered a couple of damn hard to get Tommy Emmanuel CDs (Australian guitarist) not so long ago. All CDs arrived here from Caiman within 14 days. Wow!!! I wonder if I'm a valued customer by now. I hang around an Australian board a lot and you can't even get those CDs over there. One that's easy to get is Emmanuel's "Only" (HDCD) disc and it is fu**in' fabulous. I saw him a live a few times and although he did an embarrasinly huge amount of easy listening stuff that his (American) record company forced him into (apparently), the guy just smokes everything and everyone. Man, can that guy play. Wow, wow and wow again. Love it. -
cd storage for large collections
neveronfriday replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Vertically or horizontally doesn't matter. If you have a closer look at a normal jewelcase, it's built so that the CD does not touch the case itself. So, no problem. If you take the CDs out though and store them in bags etc., you should of course not pile them up. Cheers! -
cd storage for large collections

I live in a rather huge apartment beneath the roof of a three storey house. I have lots of (don't know the English term) slanted roof corners which usually are a waste of space. So, I filled those corners up with CD shelves. They are all IKEA "Ivar" shelves (lowest version available) and if I move one day, I just need to buy new side-pieces (which can be had in 5 different heights up until above 2 meters) and I will go tall instead of wide. The cost for that is a laugh. I think one tall side-piece costs 5 to 10 Euro. Oh, and I do have more shelves elsewhere. Might post a pic one of these days. Cheers! -

no, but there are eric marienthal, spyro gyra, and rippingtons discs. no joke... wish it were, -e- Yep. I went through that phase as well. If you look elsewhere in my place (yes, there are more shelves) you will also find death and speed metal, a German oompah disc to scare unwanted guests away (I don't use it much because it actually attracts the wrong people), there are Madonna, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion discs, recordings (I collect those) of Mussorgsky's "Night on the Bold Mountain" in its original orchestration, etc. Just to freak everyone out here, I just added the entire first run of the Status Quo Remasters (Quo, Piledriver, Hello!, On the Level, Blue for You, Live!) and 4 Cecilia Bartoli recordings. How's that for eclectic? Cheers! P.S.: If you look again, there is actually one Kenny G. album in there. Ha! P.S.S.: As you can tell, I don't sell discs really. But I'm thinking of it. That whole easy listening and fusion stuff I haven't heard for 10 years or more. -

I've heard good things about them. There are better ones (which cost quite a bit more), but with the money-back guarantee, you can't really go wrong? Cheers! -

I wanted to post a list here. It was quite extensive. When completed, I decided not to post it. There are just too many tunes. It is an extremely rare occurence that I stop the playback of one of the recordings I have. I always play them until the end. Jimmy Smith is my "get-ready-for-the-weekend" guy - he smokes my speakers at least once a week, usually Fridays at around 18:00 (but certainly not only). I think even the neighbours have started to like him ... I'm not really giving them a chance to decide otherwise. Side-note: I have a rather warm-sounding Marantz/Dynaudio setup. Jimmy Smith just sounds super-bad on that system. I often put on some of his stuff at full blast for friends when I try to show off the capabilities of the system. Jimmy Smith makes me want to buy a tube system and a better turntable. Now, how many other musicians are there that can conjure up that kind of wish? Cheers!

It was this board that really forced me to get into Jimmy Smith. I came late to his stuff but think it is stellar. You could say that all of you made me love Jimmy Smith. He's become a constant in this household because of it. I was saddened to hear about his passing, but I'm happy that there are so many excellent recordings he left behind which, to me, have this unwavering upbeat quality to them that always gets me in a good mood. I don't think I've started a weekend without Jimmy Smith since I bought the first CD. That makes him one of the very, very, very few.

I have quite a few Flanagan recordings. The one I return to most often is this one: It was the one that got me hooked on Flanagan, albeit a bit late (last year? the year before?). I had heard him many times before but didn't start concentrating on his output until I had fallen in love with that recording. Talking to my former drum teacher I also found out that I actually saw Flanagan live several times (he played with him countless times), I just couldn't remember until he told me. I think I went to too many live concerts at the time. Cheers!

caiman or casacaiman on Amazon or half
neveronfriday replied to dova's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Amazon, at least in the US, takes 15% of the sale price, a flat $1 per item in addition, and a portion of the postage you pay as well. When selling a CD to customers here in the US (I do this lots at work), we recieve a $1.84 postage credit, and on international sales we get $4.95. Amazon makes lots of money off their marketplace sellers! $2.35 per $9 CD, and post $ as well. And all they have to do is provide space on their site. I knew that. But I think it's still a weird business model. Just imagine this: A supermarket which provides some space for other supermarkets that offer many of the same items it sells, but at half the price (in my case, everything I've wanted these past months aside from limited/special editions was available from Caiman). All it gets is the rent and maybe a couple of cents here and there when the customer walks out the door. Weird. But fine with me. Cheers! -

Do you think they have something for us Europeans to do it the other way around? Like stapling the left side of our eyelids to the sides of our heads? Cheers! -

caiman or casacaiman on Amazon or half
neveronfriday replied to dova's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I've bought tons of stuff from Caiman. What never seizes to amaze me is that amazon.de actually allows a seller like that on their site. Even with the postage and every item sent separately, many of the discs I bought were at least 1/3 (often more than that) cheaper than buying through amazon.de. You could say that I practically stopped buying anything through amazon.de unless it is reduced massively. Cheers! -
