  1. I get this page. Man, I'd completely forgotton about that. Cheers!
  2. I had already signed up. I'm dumb.
  3. Denmark is going to be European Champion.
  4. It's currently on sale on eBay Germany (as of now around 60 EURO or so), but that's too much Haley for me. Cheers!
  5. According to the liner notes, the following drummers played on these sessions: Billy Guesak (drums) on: (We're Gonna) Rock Around the Clock Thirteen Women Dick Richards (drums) on: Shake, Rattle and Roll A.B.C. Boogie Happy baby Dim Dim the Lights (I Want Some Atmosphere) Birth of the Boogie Mambo Rock Two Hound Dogs Razzle-Dazzle Ralph Jones or Don Raymond (drums) on: R-O-C-K Rock-A-Beatin'-Boogie The Saints Rock 'N Roll Burn That Candle See You Later, Alligator The Paper Boy (on Main Street, U.S.A.) Ralph Jones (drums) on: Rudy's Rock Hot Dog Buddy Buddy Rip It Up Don't Knock the Rock I'm assuming these notes are correct, but you know how it is: maybe the producer sneaked in another drummer? Anyone have any info on this? Cheers!
  6. Me, myself and I want one. Cheers!
  7. Just spun the disk. Great sound and just what I was looking for! Thanks for the help. Cheers!
  8. You've got to be kidding. I'm NOT going to read that shite to mine it for organissimo. No way. Cheers! P.S.: Got this today (no idea what it's for ...): "It has breasts. It is good. [...]"
  9. Keep 'em coming. Someone also PM'd me re the Basie discs which seem to be quite good. Thanks for that. I'm thinking of raiding the freshsoundrecords.com website after I get paid for one of the bigger web projects I'm finishing at the moment, and a couple of kilos of CDs should be possible. I'll be using this thread (and any more PMs) as a kind of "shopping list". So, if you can recommend any other sets or single discs, please do. Cheers!
  10. I always thought someone should record a song entitled "All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By". I'd like that.
  11. Nope. I start speaking Danish by default. I never could figure out how to get the (non-existant) French going. Cheers!
  12. Just bought it. Thanks for the help. Cheers!
  13. Who can recommend a well-remastered currently available Best of (or the like) at a reasonable price? Cheers!
  14. There must be a lot more people here who have some Definitive discs? Let's hear what they are like, sound quality and all. Who's got the Basie discs and can comment on the quality? Cheers!
  15. Please tell me you were playing with Photoshop again. Please. Pretty please.
  16. Want, need, will have. Cheers!
  17. Bent was a great musician and an incredibly kind man. I saw him live so many times that I can't even remember how many. We had many a talk in the past here or there, the last time at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2002 at which he radiated good humour and played fantastically. He always joined up with "NIELS JØRGEN STEEN'S A-TEAM" for the annual big band bash in "Kongens Have" (he always got the best laughs) and played with his quartet all around town. He was scheduled again for this year. Another great player gone. I'll miss him.
  18. Hi everyone, I'm European. I don't have much cash to feed my jazz habit. I'm aware of the copyright discussion. That said, it seems to me that, often quietly, a whole bunch of people on this board are buying Definitive, Jazz Factory etc. discs as offered by freshsoundrecords.com or whoever. I've started that too. I don't have all that many, but searching this board here, I often get brief glimpses of someone saying this or that "reissue" sounds great or didn't live up to the buyer's expectation. Well, I wouldn't mind hearing from those people who have releases by the above-mentioned (or other) labels (under that umbrella) and can comment on the sound quality. As we all know, some of the releases were ripped off from other much more pricey box sets, some are exclusive to Definitive and yet others are, well, a shoddy job. So, if you dare, let's hear it for or against these "reissues" quality-wise (not copyright wise ... that, I think, has been covered). Three releases I'm very happy with are these: Bob Brookmeyer: Complete 1953-1954 Quintet Studio Recordings with Stan Getz. Definitive 2004 (2 CD). Good sound, maybe not as good as the two below. Chet Baker. The Original Quartet, Sextett & Septett with Russ Freeman. Complete 1953-1954 Studio Recordings. Definitive 2004 (2 CD). Great sound. I really enjoy these. Chet Baker/Gerry Mulligan. The Original Chet Baker & Gerry Mulligan Quartet. 4 CD Complete Recordings (4 CD). Definitive 2004. Ditto for the sound here. Sounds excellent to me. I have ordered their (3 CD) Jazz in Hollywood box because it was recommended elsewhere on this board recently. Cheers! P.S.: I'm especially wondering about their Basie issues: Complete Original American Decca Recordings - 3 Cd Set Complete Original American Rca Victor Recordings - 3 Cd Set Complete 1941-1951 Columbia Recordings -3 Cds Set Complete 1936-1941 Columbia Recordings - 4 Cd Set Can anyone comment on these? I'm mostly interested in the sound quality as compared to other releases.
  19. I don't think I have a bed anymore.
  20. Got mine yesterday. Thanks Agustín! Although I recognize quite a bit (I also have my dad here who had quite a bit of fun listening to BFT 12 & 13 ... and knew a lot more than I did), I notice that with this BFT, because a lot of it is so familiar, that I have problems pinpointing it. A conservative guess would be that I have about 50% of it myself, maybe even more. Let's see what I can come up with. VERY enjoyable dic(s), Agustín. And thanks again for knocking me over the head to make sure I signed up! I would have missed a great compilation had you not done that. Cheers!
  21. Before I'm off to be cut up, I'll vote for the design on the right, small logo pocket placement without the "squaring-in". The third ("alternative") design is not my cup of tea. And, John, great work here, too. Now get back to the Basie job! Cheers!
  22. My two cents worth (I would have liked to put the following words into a graphic format, but neither time nor ability right now): a) The idea of a logo is to summarize things. The idea is NOT to have a logo and then have text all over the shirt explaining things (Just imagine a McDonald's shirt with a McDonald's logo and then stuff like: "Hey, if you ever see this logo, wobble on over and check our menus ... we sell food, actually, just in case you didn't know").. B) Logos on shirts work best if they're a bit smaller. I thought John's small round logo (drop the text) to go up front (breast pocket placement) and then simply the web address (with maybe a one-liner) on the back of the shirt would be a great way to do it. It's been done a thousand times .. for a reason ... it works that way. Summary: don't water down the logo! It can and should just be graphic, no text added. Cheers!
  23. I'm German. We invented weird music. I think. Cheers & thanks!
  24. I've received the disc, albeit a bit late because I'm only home sporadically at the moment. As I've posted elsewhere, I've not been able to spend much time here (actually none at all, really). I'll make amends with my own BFT (in a few years ) and the Count Basie site, which is really beginning to take shape as you read this. I love the disc and a lot of it is right up my alley. I even have a few cuts myself, I think, but I simply haven't had the time for any checking at all. And, unfortunateley, there are a whole lot of must-haves on here. It's gonna cost big time, this one. I love it. Thanks for a great disk, Daniel A.! Cheers!
  25. Damn, I'm late. Agustin did send me a PM to WAKE ME UP! Thanks Agustin, and yes, I'd love one.
