  1. OK, that made me laugh.
  2. Windows Update. The real "Russian Roulette". Nothing even comes close.
  3. Time to turn 90 ... before Bill Gates kills me. Cheers! Join the *cough* err, *cough cough* PAAAA*cough*RRTY!
  4. Don't try to make me laugh. It won't work!
  5. I used those as coasters.
  6. Microsoft Windows in any version was programmed by pieces of parrot droppings. Bill Gates is the devil. And I'm too dumb to save my work (2 hours) before the system crashes once again. Should have known better. F***, P*** and SH**! P.S.: Who in his right mind can come up with such an unconceivably bad product? One that actually takes the boot sector with it into the hell of disjointed bits and bytes? Why is Bill Gates still alive? How much does it cost to rectify that?
  7. Hm. I have to admit that I'm and not sure which way to turn on this issue. I have always been for copyright control, but European copyright law seems ok to me. I'm not going to go into that here, but suffice it to say that I'm very weary of Americans trying to impose their view of things on us. Very. It's more a reflex than anything well thought-out. What I have problems with is the ripping off of other people's remastering job, which often seems to be the case (see my Baker thread just below). The real problem is that this "theft" gets me good music cheap. And I readily admit that a lot of ethical considerations have again and again flown out the window when I was confronted with a good-sounding CD at a fraction of the price asked by others. As an avid listener and a damn good customer of various music companies, I've gotten a bit tired of dishing out vast sums of money for products which, often, could be cheaper. I know this can be debated ad nauseam, but I can't shake the feeling that for a few years now, I've been ripped off. The argument that I can simply stop buying stuff if it's too expensive usually comes either from people who have enough cash to purchase the expensive version ...or who are just plain dumb (no offense intended). I'm a freak, and I jump on good offers first and think later. I think a lot of us collectors do that. What am I saying? Don't know really, but I'm buying some of this stuff, Definitive as well, because I can't afford the other stuff. It's legal here, so I don't have too many qualms about it ... just a bad conscience then and again. Cheers!
  8. It says 54 now.
  9. What actually ever happened to Deep?
  10. Let me know if you agree on the good sound. Maybe it's a psychological thing, and my mind is playin' tricks on me. Cheers! If other sets are as good as this one, I might buy a few more. I am aware of the other thread re copyright issues (the Proper thread), but I'm European, and there has to be some advantage to being that. Cheers!
  11. No doubt about it.
  12. Hi everyone, because my finances dictate that I step a lot more lightly when it comes to CD purchases (especially in light of my shopping binges of late), I took the plunge and tried three of the Definitive releases: 01. Chet Baker. The Original Quartet, Sextet & Septet with Russ Freeman. Complete 1953-1954 Studio Recordings. 2 CDs. Definitive/Disconforme 2004. 02. Bob Brookmeyer. Complete 1953-1954 Quintet Recordings with Stan Getz. 2 CDs. Definitive/Disconforme 2004. 03. Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan. The Original Chet Baker & Gerry Mulligan Quartet. Complete Recordings. 4 CDs. Definitive/Disconforme 2004. I already have a bad conscience because, although I have just listened to the Baker/Mulligan Quartet, the sound seems to be vastly improved when compared to the Pacific Jazz "Best of" I have. Hence, Disconforme etc. probably ripped the mastering off somewhere. Has anyone else bought any of these? Impressions? Cheers! P.S.: Although the liner notes and session info are only minimal (to be expected at that price), I still think the packaging is quite nifty. Not bad, although, as I've said above, I now have to light candles and stuff ... and will probably roast in hell because I bought these. Edited: for weird-looking words
  13. (Added new members to team list) .: White Lightning .: Jack Adams
  14. Made it. Things slow down when you reach that age. Thanks for the advance cake! Cheers!
  15. Yeah, got that one too. Not bad. Despite all the posts, reviews, etc. I just don't understand why a company can get away unscathed with putting out such an amount of unbelievably bad re-issues, remastered as if mastered by a 1st-semester student on crack. And yes, I know that this is insulting all 1st semester students. All of them would have done a better job. God, I get so aggrevated listening to the Basie/Peterson date. I've never heard such bad remastering. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this can simply not be the way it was recorded. And the Ellington/Strayhorn? Man, I feel like kicking something. An absolute disgrace. And, if I'm accidentally trashing the original recording engineer, I don't care. This is just awful. But, hell, it's great music. Amazing what we jazz fans have to put up with. I'm on a hate streak.
  16. OK. Zweitausendeins had a great sale for lots of these Zyx remasters for 4.99 or whatever. I bought pretty much the whole lot. Many are damn good (I'm listening to Art Pepper+Eleven which sounds more than fine to me), but some sound so awful that one could puke (why is it Ellington that gets the shitty end of the stick all the time?). Can't we put together a comprehensive list of those releases that sound abominable? I mean, they are available again and again at bargain prices, and every other one is a turkey. Let me start: 01.Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn. Piano Duets - Great Times!. Absolute shite. Godawful. Hate release. Makes me want to be a terrorist. 02. Count Basie meets Oscar Peterson. The Timekeepers. F***. This thing is such a great session and it's got enough cruddy sound to make you cry. Basie and Peterson in a tin can. Pingy to the max. Crap! Venting season has started. Chime in.
  17. Smartass. Edit: Oh, screw it! ... b]
