  1. Had Madeleine Peyroux (and Joan Osborne) on tap for tonight in Philadelphia, but they rescheduled it for May 2022, just yesterday. Blah. On the brighter side I got to see King Crimson last week, my first show since the pandemic started. They were fantastic, as was the Zappa Band, who opened.
  2. It's a group created by Bill Rieflin to perform live ambient soundscapes with improvisations over the top. At least that's the simplest description I can give. I think this is their only physical release (and it didn't have a wide release to start with, only available at their shows for the most part), though they supposedly went into the studio and did some recording. I don't think that ever came out though. Here's an old article about a performance in L.A. - https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2006-may-15-et-slow15-story.html
  3. A number of artists are cancelling shows/tours because of COVID (and the Delta variant) currently. Not surprised.
  4. Hope she is too. I'm really enjoying her Lu's Jukebox series. The first two albums (Petty and Southern Soul covers) are fantastic, looking forward to the upcoming releases.
  5. Los Lobos goes Disneyj - not their best but still some interesting twists on familiar music
  6. I think it's a great name. Hopefully the WFT is as creative when (if?) they come up with a new name as well.
  7. I haven't been there in a long time, but i'll second Long in the Tooth. Also Princeton Record Exchange, if you're mobile and willing to drive there.
  8. Somewhere in Manhattan, 5/30/21 The Dakota, 5/30/21
  9. I was there about a week and a half ago too, and wasn't overly impressed with their inventory in general. I suspect the pandemic is the main culprit, as well. I don't know that that will change until life starts getting back to "normal", whatever that means anymore. At least to the point where high volume sales and purchases start happening again.
  10. My turn for some fun. I pre-ordered a signed book for my wife, from one of her favorite authors when she was younger, about 6 months ago. Release date was March 16. So the package started in Auburn, Washington on the 16th. 3/17 - Shipment received, Auburn, WA. 3/18 - Arrived at Seattle WA Network Distribution Ctr 3/18 - Left Seattle WA Network Distribution Ctr 3/18 - Arrived at Seattle WA Distribution Ctr 3/19 - Departed Seattle WA Distribution Ctr 3/19 - Arrived BACK at Seattle WA Network Distribution Ctr (Sigh. I guess the package was wined and dined here the first time, so it went back for more) 3/20 - Departed Seattle WA Network Distribution Ctr ** 5 days with no updates, so it's a mystery where the package went ** 3/25 - Arrived at Philadelphia PA Network Distribution Ctr (Yeah! Philadelphia is only 25 miles from my house!) 3/25 - Departed Philadelphia PA Network Distribution Ctr (ok, so it's gotta be getting closer) ** 8 days with no updates ** 4/2 - Arrived Jersey City NJ Network Distribution Ctr (crap, this is like 90 miles away, not the right direction, not touristy either so what gives, package? I could see going to Atlantic City or Cape May or something, but Jersey City??) 4/3 - Departed Jersey City NJ Network Distribution Ctr (hmmm) ** 3 days with no updates ** 4/6 - Arrived BACK at Philadelphia PA Network Distribution Ctr (jeezus, Philly's a great food city but.. My package must REALLY show it's appreciation when it's wined and dined) 4/6 - Departed Philadelphia PA Network Distribution Ctr, to destination unknown. Hopefully it arrives by my wife's birthday in June at this point.

  12. Thanks for that opinion. I have an engineering degree from A&M. They are ranked #13 currently (rankings from 2020) in the nation for engineering programs on U.S. News & World Report. Ahead of Columbia, Cornell, Penn, Princeton, & Harvard, all of which are obviously Ivy League. I'd say for engineering they're fairly top shelf. On Money.com they're ranked #8 nationally.
  13. Ray Wylie Hubbard wrote that, based on an experience he had in New Mexico, and probably owes his career to Jerry Jeff's cover.
  14. When I was a little (i.e. elementary school aged) kid, we lived in Arcadia, CA. A few doors down from Michael Anthony's parents' house. Mike's youngest brother and I were friends, and ran around the neighborhood together. I was in and out of their house regularly, and remember many older teenagers and maybe 20 somethings coming in and out. Very possible EVH and Roth amongst them. But they were all just older, long haired guys to me at the time. We moved away before Van Halen took off, but that connection kept me a fan of the band as I grew older and moved around many times. As has been referred to a few times already, Eddie wasn't nice to Mike at all, for most of the time the band existed. Mike is as friendly, nice, and low-key as they come, and Ed simply screwed him out of his rightful piece of VH's royalties etc, when he fired Mike and then only allowed him to come back as a salaried employee. So as great a musician as Ed was, he wasn't the greatest bandmate or person, as evidenced by his treatment of Mike, Roth, Hagar & Cherone over the years. So I have mixed feelings about him, but regardless, Rest in Peace, Eddie.

  16. Hey Matthew, how about Asian eating videos?
  17. Mobley played with Johnny Griffin on "A Blowin' Session". Griffin played with Nat Adderley on Griffin's "White Gardenia". Adderley played on Tony Bennett's "Beat of My Heart" album. Bennett did a duets album with Lady Gaga, "Cheek to Cheek". Gaga had a music video directed by Hannah Lux Davis, "Rain on Me". Davis directed 3 different Paris Hilton videos. Sorry, that's 6 steps. Best I could come up with.
  18. I discovered John Prine a bit later in my life than other singer/songwriter types. Perhaps because of that, I'm still in love with his music currently. And I find heart and humor in equal parts in his music. I thought he would make it through this, but no. Hurts my heart that he's gone. I was able to meet him a few years back, after a show in Texas (double bill with Alejandro Escovedo). The crowd skewed older, but I could tell everyone in the auditorium loved him and felt a personal connection with his music. I did too. He was as sociable and happy in person as I had hoped, especially after his previous health/cancer issues. Rest in Peace, John.
