  1. Wow! 40 years Chuck? I just turned 40 in March. This news makes me very sad. The last time I saw Fred was when Reptet played at the Velvet about a year and half ago. He had lost a lot of weight since his performance in Seattle a few years prior (Fred, Hamid and William Parker – one of the greatest performances I ever witnessed). My condolences to Fred’s family. They must be very proud of his accomplishments. He was a man who did thing son his own terms and made his own way in this world. I guess we’ll just have to muddle through, but things will be a little less bright without the light of Fred Anderson. Thanks you Fred.
  2. Reptet & 4Culture Team-up to Present a Free Father’s Day Jazz Concert in White Center Information: www.reptet.com The Scoop Information: www.reptet.com They honk, they squawk and they are back in their hometown in time to give Father's Day a new sound. Fresh off the heels of a national tour, internationally acclaimed alt-jazz sextet, Reptet, will be performing six new compositions, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 20, at Big Al’s Brewery Tasting Room at 9832 14th Ave SW, White Center. The show is outdoors, appropriate for all ages, free, and open to the public. Funding for composing the six songs and the performance was provided in part by a grant from 4Culture, King County’s cultural services agency. The compositions will be released on the group's third CD in the fall. The Band Seattle-based Reptet is an atypical modern jazz sextet consisting of bass, drums and horns. These six dynamic multi-instrumentalists are Samantha Boshnack (trumpet, slide trumpet, piccolo trumpet, flugelhorn), Nelson Bell (trombone, euphonium, tuba), Izaak Mills (tenor sax, bass clarinet, flute), Chris Credit (baritone sax, alto sax, tenor sax, clarinet), Tim Carey (electric & upright bass), John Ewing (drums & percussion). They play all original, kid-friendly music that challenges the discerning fan, while entertaining the casual listener. Reptet gained international recognition with their 2006 release, Do This! (Monktail Records), which was a 2006 Independent Music Awards finalist for Best Jazz Record of the Year, was chosen top jazz CD of 2006 by Jazziz Magazine’s Alex Gelfand, and made the top ten lists of many other writers and critics across the globe. They gained further recognition by winning two Earshot Jazz 2007 Golden Ear Awards - Best Outside Jazz Group and Best Live Performance (as part of the Monktail Raymond Scott Project). In 2008 they released their second full length CD, Chicken or Beef?, which further solidified their presence on the American music scene. Their most recent release is a red vinyl 45 RPM single/digital download entitled Agendacide. The Show In organizing the show, West Seattle resident and Reptet drummer, John Ewing, was looking for a way to give back to the community he calls home. Knowing that 4Culture is always on the look out to enable special events in underserved neighborhoods, he applied for a grant with White Center in mind. The idea for a Father's Day performance was a natural because his 5-year-old son attends preschool in White Center. This has made the neighborhood a backdrop for both the development of his son and their relationship. The Venue Big Al’s Tasting Room offers an outdoor, all-ages venue that encourages patrons to bring whatever prepared food they like, or take advantage of the two public grills on site – you can even bring along the family pooch. It has worked with other local businesses and agencies, to help transform a once neglected and economically challenged area of the county into a burgeoning artist's community that takes pride in having one of the area's greatest concentrations of cultural diversity and community pride. #####
  3. Thanks Ted. It was great to chat and hang a bit. Tonight: Acadia Cafe in Minneapolis...tell your twin city friends!
  4. Great show at Founders in Grand Rapids last night. Corey Ruffin's End Time Orchestra opened the night. Nice people in Grand Rapids...at least the ones who came to see us place and hosted us. It was a high energy kick off to three gigs with Corey's bands, ending with the explosion in Chicago on Saturday. Remember folks, the Chicago show at The Viaduct Theatre starts kinda last (doors at 10:30) and we hit at 11PM. After that, Reptet will join the Super Happy Funtime Burlesque pit band and things will go from intellectual irreverence to existential erotica pretty quick. There is going to be an after hours loft party with lotsa jammin' and hijinx - but you have to attend the Viaduct show in order to find out the details on that. It's gonna be faa-un! Se you there, -j
  5. Attention New York friends! A new show has been added to the tour! We'll be playing at the Jalopy Theatre in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn tomorrow night. We hit at midnight.
  6. Well... the show in Chicago is a going to be kinda special. We are playing with Super Happy Funtime Burlesque. We will open the night with an hour long set and then join the SHFB troop for some full blast irreverent mayhem. It's going to be quite the event.
  7. We’ve already started to strategize ways to get ours asses down to New Orleans. If you have any suggestions on places to play in Texas, let me know.
  8. I hope to see you there Tom. It will be fun - you have my personal guarantee.
  9. I don't see why not...for a nominal service charge, of course. Then maybe I'll just sneak a tape recorder into the Chris' gig, and later on I'll release "Reptet--The Secret Sessions." Alright. But I have to warn you. We travel with this guy: His name is ‘Bonehead’ and he handles our merch and runs the door. If he discovers you’re illegally taping the show, he’ll go and flex on ya’….and it won’t be pretty.
  10. I don't see why not...for a nominal service charge, of course.
  11. Finally all the board members from Fargo who have been clamoring for a Reptet show get their wish…

  13. Which of these two venues would be better suited for Reptet: Reggies Music Joint or Viaduct Theater? Thanks, -john
  14. Sorry Joe. That's just how the tour routed out this time. Come to the show and I'll give you a double or nothing coin toss on the cover charge.
  15. Lots...all in May. Official announcement coming shortly. Stay tuned.

  17. Hey Chuck (and everyone), Mike website only has contact info for his booking agent. Do you (or anyone else) have his email address - or should I just make contact through the emerging improvisors email (contact@emergingimprovisers.org)? Thanks, -john
  18. Yes! We tried the art museums Art After 5 but they were already booked through May. We're looking at Johnny's? Is that the name, can't remember. Please let me know if you have any leads. Thanks, -john We want to play in Virginia this time too. Does anyone know the guys in Fight the Big Bull ?
  19. I think we will be doing a double bill with Corey Eno Ruffin's group at Founders. Hugo would love to have us again but I think that Founders will pay decent and we'll be needing every penny while on the road. We'd like to play Detroit, Ann Arbor and Kalamazoo as well. Keep the suggestions-a-comin'.
  20. Yes, I just got an email from Dan. Hopefully we'll be getting another show at the Velvet...whew, I thought it had closed!
