  1. Reptet are planning on touring through Michigan and Chicago again in May. Last I heard, Dan was booking the Velvet, but that article by Neil in today’s NYTimes says they are closed and awaiting a new locale. Where’s the place for us to play this time? The Hungry Brain? Elastic? Club Blujazz? Any advice and contacts would be highly appreciated (for places to play in Michigan too). Thanks ya’ll! -j
  2. Yeah, yeah...but it still doesn't change the fact that Leno and Zucker are major assholes.
  3. Bill, that Dudu Pukwana tune is called Angel Nemali. Thanks for coming. It was a blast, was it not?
  4. Cliff needs a new agent. I'm willing to take that chance just to dump Silva. He had no place on this team and would have just sat on the DL all year with some fake injury just like he did last year. He's horrible. Once again, GMZ weaves his magic and turns a piece of shit into a chance at something better. With lots of potential and little down side. If it don't work out the M's can just cut him. It would be less that having Silva.
  5. I totally agree...but I think he's gonna be pleasantly surprised in Seattle and enjoy kicking the Phillies ass in the 2010 World Series.
  6. Lee pitched a month and a half in the National League. He won the Cy Young in the American. He went 83-48 in the AL and 7-4 in the NL. Last year he had a 3.14 ERA in the AL and a 3.49 ERA in the NL. He was lights out in the World Series, winning both of Philly's two wins...against an American League team. This was a steal for the Mariners. If they don't trade him at the deadline, that means they are in a pennant race and possibly in the playoffs or more. And if he walks, the M's get a first round draft pick in return. If they do trade him at the deadline, they'd get at least as much (if not more) then they just gave away. On top of all that, there is a chance that he'll actually like it in Seattle and want to stay. The Mariners got a good thing goin' on right now. Club house morale is at a all time high. Man! Jack Z is awesome.
  7. Reptet: Yes, Mr. Zappa, humor DOES belong in music! by Tom D'Antoni on December 14, 2009 Matt Groening likes them. What does that tell you? It tells you that the picture you see here does not lie. Reptet lives in Seattle and is comprised of John Ewing (drums/percussion), Samantha Boshnack (trumpet/flugelhorn), Tim Carey (bass), Izaak Mills (saxes/bass clarinet/flute/more), Christopher Credit (saxes/clarinet/bassoon/more) and Nelson Bell (trombone/tuba). I wonder if they studied “more” in college, or just picked it up along the way. They will be appearing at Doug Fir on Tuesday, December 16. Andrew Oliver’s Sextet will open. As Frank Zappa once facetiously asked, “Does Humor Belong In Music?” Reptet asks the musical question, “Chicken or Beef?” as the title of their latest album. Read on…
  8. Holy Crap! I love this deal. Felix and Lee # 1 & 2??? M's are the favs right now and they haven't even sign Jason Bay yet.
  9. Tuesday December 15 LIVE MUSIC Reptet, Andrew Oliver [JAZZ SCHMAZZ] If there were ever a genre that needed a little bit of goofiness introduced into the mix (you know, just to keep it honest), it would be jazz. This self-serious style of music is taken down a few pegs by the Seattle group known as Reptet, with its penchant for wacky costumes and goofball tunes like "Chicken or Beef?" The band is capable of reining in the piss-taking, though, as proven by its latest 7-inch, Agendacide, which features two sharp tracks of cool Sun Ra-style post-bop. ROBERT HAM. Doug Fir Lounge 9 pm. $8. 21+. Willamette Week
  10. Figgins in the bank, now it's time for the M's to pick up Bay, Lackey and a back-up catcher and the Mariners will be ready for the 2010 season.
  11. The Mariners should scoop this muthafucka up: I don't care how much he drinks...Babe Ruth drank a lot too.
  12. We Giants fans once thought that way about Barry Bonds, too.....but we got over it. Griffey never juiced and hence never had to lie about it. Bonds teammates didn't like him very much, Griffey has always been a positive influence in the clubhouse. If Griffey had juiced he would have had better numbers than Bonds...plus Griffey was always a better fielder than Bonds, even in his younger days in Pittsburg. One more reason to villify Bill Bavasi, one of the worst GM's in recent memory. Up over and out. Stop! You guys are killin' me. I hear Jack Cust to the Mariners...
  13. The SCTV Complete Season 1 Box Set. Joe Flaherty cracks me up.
  14. Man, the show was great! Packed house, NASA Flight suits, smoke machine, great performance, appreciative fans. Here's the Seattle Weekly's review of the show if your interested to learn more: http://blogs.seattleweekly.com/reverb/2009...ets_the_age.php Didn't see Chewy
  15. The Stranger, the Seattle Weekly and KEXP all agree – Tonight’s "Agendacide" record release party is the place to be! http://kexp.org/events/event_details.aspx?eventid=3262 http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/the-sco...ent?oid=2763843 http://www.seattleweekly.com/2009-11-18/mu...ommended-shows/
  16. I hope all the Seattle based members can make it to Reptet's Agendacide Record Release Party this Thursday. It's going to be really fun w/ Sam's other project Orkestar Zirkonium opening. They describe themselves as, "a mobile, fourteen-member brass-and-drum ensemble that borrows from a variety of musical traditions, composes original music, and kicks out celebratory spectacle in a variety of circumstances. Zirkonium members hail from Circus Contraption, the Infernal Noise Brigade, the Anti-Fascist Marching Band, Reptet, the Empty Cage Quartet, the Fremont Philharmonic, and other groups; our songs draw from Eastern European / Roma brass, klezmer, Bollywood soundtracks, Ethiopian jazz, punk, funk, hiphop, and other musical idioms." Thursday, November 19th Reptet's Agendacide Record Release Party featuring Orkestar Zirkonium Tractor Tavern 5213 Ballard Ave NW Seattle, WA 98107 (206) 789-3599 9PM - 21+ Thanks everyone, John
  17. Thanks for coming out Joe. Sorry I couldn't yak more with ya', but I had a bunch of people there that I hadn't seen in a while as well as the president of the Santa Barbara Jazz Society that wanted to talk biz. I hope you and your friends had a good time. Playing that high up in the air was a bit bizarre, not to mention the passive/aggressive staff that couldn't make up their mind on whether they wanted us to play inside or outside...but I thought the show was lotsa fun. Our workshop at CalArts the following day went VERY well too.
  18. Leaving tomorrow folks. Please come to a show if you live on the west coast. And if not, tell a friend. Times are hard for established jazz artists. It's next to impossible for up-and-coming jazz artists. Reptet (and Organissimo) somehow make it work. Your support is so very important. See ya'll on the flip side!!!
  19. Me, kicked off a discussion board? NEVER. Seems I have an incredible knack for saying just what moderators like to hear. BTW, have I mentioned that I believe Jim is the most smokin' organ player I have ever seen? And Joe and Randy??? Amazing! BTW, have I mentioned that I believe Jim is the most smokin' organ player I have ever seen? And Joe and Randy??? Amazing!
  20. Damn! Even if the Phils take it in six like I predicted, Vajerzy still beats me.
  21. Yeah well, I remember when I was a kid the Dodgers beat the Phillies in the NLCS in 77' and 78'. After the 'We are Family' Pirates won the WS in 79', the Phillies won it all in 80'. The Dodgers have some good young talent with which they can built as long as they learn from these last two years and not get dejected. And they need to get rid of Manny. His prime years are gone, he can't use steroids any more and he's a cancer on every team he's been on.
