  1. Piano Sonatas No.14, 15, 16, 17
  2. This CD has some terrific piano work by Sonny Clark. Tenor saxophonist Eddy Williams plays well, but aside from an earlier session or two by Horace Henderson, has not ever been recorded again. Of course Benny Green is also in good form.
  3. Danish String Quartet - Haydn & Brahms
  4. This is in my view amazingly wrong. I have in my collection a large number of "mainstream" type recordings from that time period that are wonderful. Just to give one example, On my shelves are recordings made between 1987 - 2007 by outstanding jazz piano players such as Mulgrew Miller, John Hicks, Tommy Flanagan, Barry Harris, Hank Jones, Tete Montoliu, Ray Bryant, Steve Kuhn, George Cables, Junior Mance, Kenny Barron and McCoy Tyner. And that was just jazz piano recordings.
  5. Quatuor Anton - Glinka String Quartets
  6. Jan Allan & Bobby Shew
  7. Mark, Listening to a very large number of Kenny Dorham solos would seem to be a huge task. I just now had the time to sit down and listen to the four favorites you selected. Though I agree that Kenny's solo on "It Could Happen To You" and on "Old Folks" were highly thoughtful, and well constructed, they would not qualify as among my favorites. The other two you selected "Falling In Love With Love" and "Short Story", would certainly be on my favorites list. Two other Kenny Dorham solos came to mind, so I pulled them off the shelf and listened to them. After hearing them just now, I am placing them on my list of favorites. "Turquoise Twice" from Cedar Walton - Cedar - Trio, Quartet, Quintet - Prestige "Off Monk" from Barry Harris - Bulls Eye - Prestige I strongly suspect that if I had the time to listen to the countless other Kenny Dorham solos that have been recorded, I would find quite a few more to put on my list of favorites.
  8. The Phil Woods - Little Big Band - Evolution on Concord is the only one that I have, and have heard, from this list of 9. I may check out the Charles Earland, but the other 7 are not in my areas of interest.
  9. With the Kenny Clarke/ Francy Boland Big Band It has a very nice version of a tune I like a lot - November Girl. That tune was done beautifully by Carmen Mcrae.
