  1. Dan, you may recall that I said that I liked most of the Gene Harris albums on Concord quite a lot. My sense is that the Three Sounds albums were much more arranged with more restrained and less creative solos by Gene as compared with his playing on the Concord recordings.
  2. Just played the Three Sounds session "Moods" recommended by many on this thread. What it reminded me of the most were many of the trio dates by Red Garland. Pleasant music, easy to listen to, but lacking (for me) the musical depth I hear from many other piano trio recordings. When I think about the many piano trio CDs in my collection by (for example) Kenny Barron, Ray Bryant, John Hicks, Tommy Flanagan, George Cables, Hank Jones, Steve Kuhn, Barry Harris and Jimmy Rowles, to name just a few, the Three Sounds album is at a much lower level. Of course, just my opinion, yours may differ.
  3. Sal Nistico - Tulio De Piscopo - Jazz Friends
  4. R.I.P. I too purchased many of his Spotlite recordings over the years. Tony not only put out all that great Charlie Parker material, but also released quite a number recordings by British musicians that I enjoyed.
  5. Beethoven - Op.18/5 and Mozart - Sinfonia Concertante K.364
  6. Grieg - Complete Chamber Music Vol.1
  7. Thanks for the recommendations.
  8. I have never been a fan of the Three Sounds. Their trio albums never were appealing to me. I do like the session with Stanley Turrentine. The funny thing is that I do like the most of the Gene Harris recordings he made for Concord. Thought I might like to give the Three Sounds another try. Which of their trio albums would you most highly recommend?
  9. Haydn - Op71/2 and Beethoven - Piano Trio No.2, Op.1/2
  10. Larry, I have both albums. We are in agreement that that one Stitt album does not give accurate information on personnel. Yes Ramsey Lewis, and El Dee Young are on one session. My ears tell me what yours tell you. My point was only to indicate that there is also a Stitt album on Argo with Barry Harris, Will Austin and Frank Gant.
  11. Larry, you are referring to a different album. Argo 661 recorded August 1, !956 did have Stitt with Barry Harris, Will Austin and Frank Gant. There was a mixup with the personnel listed on the one to which you are referring, but that is not the session with Barry Harris.
  12. Mozart - Piano Quartet No.1, K.478 and Brahms - Violin Sonata No.3, Op.108
  13. Bach - Suite For Cello No.1 & No.2 & Haendel - Sonata for Cello & Piano in G minor
