  1. There are many accounts of Stan Getz being very violent toward his wife. And don't forget the knife episode with Dizzy and Cab Calloway. Another jazz victim of violence is Eddie Jefferson. Also Bud Powell being beat on the head by the police.
  2. Part of American Jazz in Paris series on French Vogue label. The Moody tracks are from 1951, the Frank Foster tracks are from 1954.
  3. If you like Yusef Lateef on tenor sax, you need this recording. Lateef gets space here to blow, and he is outstanding. Sam Jones on bass, and leader Louis Hayes along with fellow Detroit piano great, Barry Harris also do a fine job.
  4. The first 4 tracks feature a quartet, Blakey with Henry Durant on tenor, Horace Silver, & Percy Heath. This is the only time I have heard, or heard of Henry Durant? Wonder what happened to him? The remaining 8 tracks have some especially fine playing from Joe Gordon and Gigi Gryce. 7 of the 8 tunes are Gryce compositions. Many of them deserve to be played far more often.
  5. Might it be Wade Legge?
  6. Disc 1 - Recorded between 1940 - 1945. Her real name was Doris Mary Ann von Kappelhoff. George Simon of Metronome called this "a wholesome joining of the ice cream soda girl with the ice cream soda band."
  7. Leonskaja - Schubert - Piano Sonata in E flat major D.568 Bohm/ Berlin Philharmonic - Mozart - Sinfonia Concertante K.364
