  1. Ferras / Berlin Philharmonic / Katajan - Brahms - Violin Concerto
  2. I was also very slightly underage, but had a fake ID that I used to get in to the Rouge Lounge. Also used the fake ID to get in to hear jazz at a few other clubs during that same general time period.
  3. The Clifford Brown Max Roach Quintet played at the Rouge Lounge in Detroit from June 5, 1956 through June 10,1956. Though I do not recall the specific date, I went to hear that group during that stay at the Rouge Lounge. I was shocked when I learned that Clifford Brown died in an automobile accident on June 26, 1956.
  4. Another recording of Chopin's Etudes. While this is a good one, I prefer the versions by Perahia, Pollini and Friere.
  5. Fleisher - Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Handel Op.24 Oistrakh / Yampolsky - Franck - Violin Sonata
  6. "North Of The Sunset" from the Tommy Flanagan Trio - Thelonica - CD.
  7. I am a big fan of Steve Kuhn's recordings on Concord, Reservoir and Venus. But there are some Kuhn sessions on other labels that were disappointing to me. I don't care for most recordings on ECM, so thought this Steve Kuhn Trio CD would not be to my taste. The first time I listened to it I had a luke warm reaction. But after playing it a couple more times I found it more and more appealing. I now like it quite a bit.
  8. Violin Sonatas - No.6, Op.30/1 and No.7, Op.30/2
  9. One of my very favorite jazz piano players for more than 55 years.
  10. This is Jackie's first album as a leader. I remember finding a copy on the Ad Lib label at a small shop in Detroit when it was first released. Jackie's great emotional playing grabbed me right from the start. I most likely had heard him previously with Miles Davis on his Prestige or Blue Note sides. I learned many years later that there were very few of the Mclean Ad Lib label records issued. Not sure I ever knew of anyone who had a copy besides me.
  11. Can't compare this to "a really good pop record" and/or Cher. Don't listen to that kind of music. I just would call it a really good jazz record.
