Dexter Gordon Quartet "Espace Cardin 1977" (Elemental Music)
Peter Friedman replied to soulpope's topic in New Releases
I also have just pre-ordered a copy of the Dexter Gordon CD . -
Marian McPartland put together an all female group with Vi Redd on alto sax, Mary Osborne on guitar, Lynn Milano on bass and Dotty Dodgion on drums. They recorded an album called - "Now's The Time" on Halcyon. This was recorded live at "The Monticello" in Rochester, New York on June 30,1977 I was living in Rochester at that time, and went to see the group at the Monticello. Don't recall if I was there the evening when the album was recorded.

This CD has slipped under the radar. That is too bad as it has some truly outstanding playing on it. Barney Wilen's solo on "Solar" may well be the best I have ever heard by him, and I have almost all of his recordings. Also Dusko Goykovich plays at the very top of his form as does George Gruntz.
