I saw Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers at least twice. Both times when I was living in Detroit. The first time was with Lee Morgan, Benny Golson and Bobby Timmons. Don't recall the date, but had to have been in the late 1950's at a Jazz Concert. The second time I saw them live was at a club in Detroit called The Minor Key. It had to have been in 1961 or 1962. The musicians were Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Cedar Walton & Jymie Merritt. The Minor Key session stands out because it was where I took a young woman on our first date. I married that woman!
