That would be awful if it had to close. It is a great place to hear music. I have fond memories of going there to see Dexter Gordon, Joe Williams, Betty Carter, Mongo Santamaria, and Pat Metheny/Dewey Redman/Charlie Haden/Paul Motian. It is a nice place with all seats close to the stage.

Good God, I remember "Clifton"!!! I can't believe he's passed away! What the hell? If you are interested, there is a thread in the "About the Bulletin Board" section of the AAJ forum, about Clifton's illness, treatment, passing away, and the reactions of many people.

In 2006, Marc Meyers, "Clifton", passed away. He was one of the most knowledgable people to participate in jazz forums and a truly good person. It appears that he did not post very much here. I first encoutered him on the ill fated Jazz Times forum, several years ago. Marc was a moderator and one of the best influences at All About Jazz. When he passed away, that board was never the same again. Many members of that board responded immediately with very heartfelt thoughts about him. This is an example of how many people can feel a genuine loss when a member of their online community passes away.

I always thought that among the albums by Ellington with the word "suite" in the title, "New Orleans Suite" was the least like an extended work. It always seemed to me like a collection of individual songs, bound together only by the title of the album and the titles of the songs. I have always liked it a great deal.

I enjoy his playing on several Sun Ra albums, including Sun Song, Sound of Joy, Supersonic Jazz, Angels and Demons at Play, and Visits Planet Earth.
