  1. Sorry to hear of your loss. We had to put Agnes down a few months ago at age 18. Our other cat Kudra seemed on death's doorstep a few weeks ago, down to 5 1/2 lbs from being 13lbs. Then we got her on thyroid medication and she is having another go at life.

  3. Happy Birthday, CT!!! Leader of the Big B-A-D Band. Didn't know it was his birthday, but I must've felt the vibe, causing me to change my avatar yesterday. Dig CT in the sombrero with Chico O'Farrill!
  4. Linus Van Pelt Pepprmint Patty Pig Pen Apolgies for the repetition. Computer difficulties, plus operator error...
  5. Katie has no wit or brains, unlike the aforementioned Linda Ellerbe... Yes, but has Linda Ellerbe dated smooth jazz trumpet guy Chris Botti?
  6. Wait til June when you're making up these days ... Yeah, it's a drag having to make up those few days in June...leading up to THREE MONTHS VACATION!!!
  7. Does anyone have experience with Sennheiser (or other brands) wireless headphones? There appear to be several models in the RS series at different price levels. Do they sound OK? Are there reception problems? Battery/Recharging issues? What's the deal?

  9. Cool, thanks. Hope to check out a set or two...
  10. Thanks for the info, Michael. I'll be in NYC for the IAJE conference that weekend. Why the warning "...not for the faint of heart"?

  12. Thanks for posting the review, Stefan. I'm intrigued, but not sure if I'm willing to invest 3 hours of my life to satisfy my curiosity. Interesting that in a review as lengthy as this one, McCarthy feels compelled to use Variety jargon-y stuff like referring to it as a 'pic' and the actors as 'thesps'. I also like referring to the cinematographer as the 'lenser'. I wonder why Howard Shore's scoring was abandoned. Did it sound too much like early Saturday Night Live?

  14. bumped to revise my earlier post about Cannonball Adderley appearing in an episode of the TV show Kung Fu. In the 30 years since I saw it, the image got a little skewed. He's not in a sombrero and poncho. He's wearing a top hat and playing...wait for it..."Camptown Races", and he's jamming with...wait for it again... Jose Feliciano!!! You can check out a clip of it here scroll to the bottom of the page, do some clicking, and enjoy!
  15. I was talking about this with some friends just the other day. Seems my parents were right on the trends of the '50s and '60s when naming me and my siblings: Wayne Nancy Janet Glenn Pretty much never see any of those names any more...
  16. I have a nice Nancy Wilson Christmas CD on MCG. And I believe they also released the posthumous Frank Mantooth CD of female singers with orchestra.
  17. Totally weird... I've had no problem reading the organissimo board on my Mac (G4 1GHz Powerbook) running Safari. Then just a couple of minutes ago I read this very thread about the sudden quitting...and a minute later Safari quit on me! Maybe I shouldhave forwarded that spammy email to 10 people in order to avoid bad luck.
  18. Very cool. I will have to put this on my Christmas list. When I was living in Chicago, I taught some sax lessons at a high school where Ken Nordine's grandson was a student. The school was doing a jazz concert and I was a guest performer, and they got Ken to do a radio commercial for the concert. So somewhere I have a cassette of a radio promo with Ken Nordine actually saying my name!!!
  19. Rooster, are you a horn player or a rhythm section guy? As a saxophonist, earplugs have always been a challenge for me; when I have them in, all I can hear is myself. With the cheap plugs it's horrible, and with the more expensive Etymotic plugs it's much better, but still not very fun. I haven't yet shelled out the dough for custom plugs, but I'm considering taking the plunge. The orchestra world is very weird. They all have plastic sound shields behind thier heads. And on the rare occasions that I get called to play with the local symphony, the string players all reach for thier earplugs when they see a saxophone or two setting up for rehearsal. Always makes me feel welcome!
