  8. Thanks for the clarification, Claude and Phil!
  9. I´ve just read an article in a Spanish newspaper about costs and margins in making a CD. They included a resuming table that I have tried to translate: Retailer´s margin 25% VAT 16% Royalties 13% (they divide it into "Royalties de los artistas" and "Derechos de autor") Recording costs 6% Manufacturing costs 4% Distribution costs 12% Promotion & marketing 10% Producer´s margin 14% Some points/opinions/questions I´d like to make: -VAT is not correctly calculated, as they put 16 out of 100 (16%). Well, the Spanish VAT for music is 16%, so if we calculate 16% for 100, total would be 16 out of 116 (13,8%) -What´s the difference between "Royalties" and "Derechos de autor"? (sorry for my ignorance) -As it´s focused on "modern music" (sic) I guess this table is applicable for new releases and not for reissues, that I think would be totally different. -This must be an average, cause to my knowledge top-sellers & independent musicians / big companies & small companies... can´t earn the same -This is the Spanish market, totally different from US market I´d like to know the opinions, critics, etc... from our knowledgeable "industry" members. Specially when applying this criteria to JAZZ releases. Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere (I didn´t find any related thread).

    Alix Combelle

From my database, I have him with Django (Mosaic), Benny Carter (Americans swinging in Paris), Hawk (Coleman Hawkins in Europe - Timeless), Buck Clayton (Back to Buck - Ocium) and in the Jazz in Paris CD "Louis Armstrong and friends". Must check discographical data.
  11. And I´m collecting all the available Storyvilles: -the Live Tatum series: 6 out of 8(?) have been released. I got the first 5 discs. -the Complete Standard Transcriptions 2 CDs -the Jazz Chronicle solo session And the Highnote "God is in the House", and the Fresh Sound "In private", and... B)
  12. From the thread quoted above Looks like i am in similar shoes here as you, i cannot find this early classics set you refer to, where have you seen it? did you get either of these? quality? The Decca "Classic early solos" is a single CD, not a 2 CD set (it was my mistake). The sound quality is quite good for that era, except for a few tracks (four or five) having a lot of surface noise. I decided to pick all the Chronological Classics, and not only for the 30´s, (still haven´t, but I´m on the right track ) and to reject the Proper Box... just because I´m becoming a Tatum completist.
  13. Check this previous thread: Art Tatum (started by king ubu)
  14. Now infecting AAJ. Two threads so far, under the screen name of THEREALSAXMAN. Many more to come, I guess.
  15. Thanks for your comments, jazzshrink. I haven´t heard Werner yet. All the Bartz I have on CD I do enjoy!!!
  16. 23th edition This year´s program is: -Dave Weckl (trio) - May 5 -Kurt Elling (with Laurence Hobgood trio) - May 6 -Kenny Werner Trio (featuring Gary Bartz) - May 7 -Russel Malone (featuring Benny Green) - May 9 If you had to pick just one, which one would you attend? If you don´t show any obstacles, I´d go and see Kenny Werner/Gary Bartz B) Thanks in advance!
  17. Would you mind asking my boss to give me an additional week off to go and see Rollins in Paris? Just for this jazz freak´s sake... or just for the sake of it!
  18. Thanks for the research. Will I have any opportunity to see Rollins live? I´m afraid I won´t.
  19. Thanks for that review, ubu! Do you know if he will come to Spain? I don´t.
