  1. Travelers A time travel show that has almost no mention of time travelling. The cast are all in the present with no return to their present in our future. This crept up on me and is one to look forward to each week. The cast are easy to relate to and their shenanigans all involve actual hard technology and a constant struggle to remain under cover. Avoids histrionics but is tense, well written and involving in a way that Twelve Monkeys never was. I like it.
  2. Cutter's Way - Ivan Passer (1981) Overlooked gem. Comme Une Image : Look At Me (2004)
  3. D'Artagnan Zorro Captain Blood
  4. Stand Up Guy Made Man Good Fella
  5. The Second Mother was very good.
  6. Frosty The Snowman Iceman Mr Softee
  7. John Frankenheimer double bill #2 The Train (1964) Superb camerawork. Seconds (1966) Brilliant exercise in paranoia despite a misjudged middle section. Great camerawork by James Wong Howe.
  8. Shrinking Violet Wall Flower Alvin Vine & The Creepers
  9. Lionel Hampton Tom Courtenay Judge Dredd

The Handmaiden Love & Friendship Mustang Tale Of Tales Julieta OJ Made In America Elle/Things To Come The Witch Embrace Of The Serpent Umimachi Diary aka My Little Sister Childhood Of A Leader Under The Shadow Anomalisa Anthropoid
  11. TV shows I liked from 2016 Westworld OJ Made In America The Night Of The Crown Happy Valley 2 Planet Earth 2 War & Peace Daredevil 2 Line Of Duty 3 Bosch 2 Peaky Blinders 3 Hypernormalisation
  12. Phil The Greek Leggy Mountbatten Barbara Windsor
  13. Sully - Clint Eastwood (2016) Modest and fairly straightforward retelling of the incident. Tom Hanks perfect for the role, ably supported. Clint's usual no fuss direction keeps things moving, even if the crash is shown at least three times , Rashomon style.
  14. She sounds French. That doesn't bother me personally; I don't live in an English speaking environment and have long since adjusted to hearing English spoken primarily as a foreign language, to the extent that I've had to strip my spoken English of all the colourful vernacular of our sceptered isle to make myself understandable !
  15. Shakey Jake Shakin' Stevens The Vibrations
  16. I didn't think the plot was especially predictable. I thought there had to be some violence judging from the director's past films. Isabelle Huppert always gives strong, nuanced performances. She is consistent, so it is easy to predict that a new film featuring her will have a good performance. That's why I used the expression ' Predictably great '. I wasn't talking about the film plot but her acting in the film. You might like to watch ' Louder Than Bombs'. It didn't get a lot of publicity, but I thought it was a very solid drama, worth watching. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2217859/
  17. The Light Between Oceans - Derek Cianfrance (2016) I liked the directors previous two films, Blue Valentine & The Place Beyond The Pines, and don't think this compares all that favourably. The cinematography is beautiful and the three leads give powerfully emotional preformances. However the plot is easily read and the saccharine level a bit too high for me. Worth watching, especially for Alicia Vikander, but not a classic.
  18. Elle - Paul Verhoeven (2016) Very good film. Predictably great performance by the amazing Ms Huppert. Thanks very much for the heads up, page.
  19. The Walker Brothers Betsey Trotwood Ramblin Jack Elliott
  20. Rejoice, Nashville fans, it's back !!
  21. El Cuerpo : The Body - Oriol Paulo (2012) Entertaining if unbelievable thriller. It looks instantly Spanish, rich colour pallette and hyper twisty plot. Very Brian De Palmeresque vibe. Good one for your Spanish studies, Bill.
  22. Captain Blood Al Gore Kaspar Gutman
  23. Pol Pot Juggy Murray Bottle Blues Band
  24. No, page. It looks like a film that I should have seen but for some reason it's slipped under my radar. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out . I agree about the charms of Ms Huppert, she's the rare type of actor that is good in everything she appears in.
  25. Muffin The Mule Little Miss Muffet Felicity Huffman
