  1. They sold out so quick at Covent Garden in London, they booked them in for a second day.
  2. The pianis was brilliant. Do you know what Javier Zalba looks like, because the sax player looked like an english school head master, tall, thin, bald and very white but he could certainly play.
  3. 4. Loved this album, as you say raspberry beret great and their tempo's are a surprise like the more up tempo willow weep for me.
  5. A week ago I went to see The Buena Vista Social Club in concert. It was their first concert of four in england as part of their european tour. I had never seen them live and was not sure what to expect. It was a sell out and the audiance were getting seated when they started playing latin lift (elavator) music over the theatres sound system, which did not make me feel good about the concert. There was no need to worrie as an eleven piece band took to the stage, from the first beat of the congas the whole stage just exuded rhythm. From the second beat the audience was with them. This was a band of supereb musians playing music that they loved and with a very high jazz content, which I have not heard on their recordings. There was no warm up act and no breaks, just music, music, music. I think it is one of the best concerts I have been to in reacent times.
  6. Thank you, I have only just got back on the forum because of the problems. I will check out ebay, I will try the UK first as I live in England. Let me tell you this is a commercial record but it is so good. I have a lot of Joe's stuff but I don't think I have heard him sound better or more comfortable, its as though the songs were writen with him in mind.
  7. Many years ago I took this Vinyl to a party with some other records and months later when I went to play the record, like mother hubburds cupboard the sleeve was empty. So here are what details I haveissued on Blue Note, number BST 84355, Produced by George Butler, arranged & conducted by Horace Ott and the track listing is, Something, Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Bridges, You Send Me, I'd Be A Fool Right Now, Didn't We, Baby, I Hold No Grudge, Lush Life, Oh Darling, Little Girl, Here's That Rainy Day, Has it ever been re-issued or included on another album. I know it was a commercial album but I liked it and would like to replace it in some way.
  8. Thank you anyway, I will just have to stick with the vinyl. Cheers
  9. I am trying to find a copy of an album from 1969 on cd. All I have is my vinyl version. It is The Cannonball Adderley Quintet, the album title is In Person. Nancy Wilson and Lou Rawls both guest on it, in fact they were both pull out of the audiance. Its not only the quintet but the rendition of Save Your Love For Me by Nancy makes me fall in love with her every time. It was on Capital. Any Help?.
  10. You are right he does not disappoint. I like the majority of his recordings but this album is special if only for useing that fruity bass sax for melody. Oh! the sound on "I'll Never Be The Same".
  11. The first recording I have of his is a called "Squere", which was a quartet. Andy playing various reeds and flutes, Geoff Williams piano, Peter Maxfield bass and Alan Edwards on drums. It was recorded in 1981 on Cadillac. At that time he sounded full of promise and quite exciting and two of the tracks were his compositions. Then I forgot about him but my interest in Carla Bley and the sound of Gary Valente on trombone made me listen to this album. All four compositions are Sheppards as are all the arrangements. It was produced by Steve Swallow and I think it is definitely worth a listen. Thanks for your views.
  12. Being new to this forum, this is the first time I have put up a album of the week. My main interest is to see what other people think of an album I quite like. The album is "Soft On The Inside" by Andy Sheppard on Antilles. The album was dedicated to Gil Evans, Carla Bley and George Russel. Its a fifteen piece band with two pianists, two drummers and a cello. I like the very unconventional way Andy uses his horns and reeds. I think Gary Valentes trombone adds great depth to the band. I once heard him described by Humphry Littleton as the man with granite teeth and concrete lips.
  13. May I suggest the album "Thats Your Booty", it is by Calvin Owens and His Blues Orchestra. realy great brass and horns and a variety of singers. This album makes me feel good but I don't like Calvins singing.
  14. I have just got home from work and my copy has arrived. So its shower, dinner, open a bottle of wine and play the music.
  15. I don't know if you have any James Torme cd releases over in the USA, but this is the first I have heard of him (Mels Son). It dropped in my post box about 12 days ago. There is no real info, not even a release date. It is an EP-CD, just five tracks, Comin Home, Ive Got Plenty Of Nothin, A Sleepin Bee, Ella Be Good, It Don't Mean A Thing, I think he has a great career ahead of him.
  16. I have beautiful memories of going to Scotts, original club 39, Gerrard Street, Soho, I used to go to the all night jazz sessions which started about midnight on a saturday. Ronnie and Tubby played their hearts out. I dont think tubby ever got the credit he deserved. I would recomend to you two vinyls I have aquired reasently, Tubby Hayes, On The Air on Harkit Records also tubby Hayes Introducing Tubbs. He was great on tenor but he was so good on flute,. vibes and anything else he wanted to play. A great talent, sadly missed. The funny thing is I went to the alnight session to see the americans.
  17. Thanks Claude and JSnqry I have ordered both CDs, thanks for all info. Cheers Ray PS/ Jazzbo does the Andorran version have subtitles as I do not speak Andorranies.
  18. What am I listening to on vinyl today, Memorial Concert for Charlie Parker, recorded Carnegie Hall 1965. This includes Dizzy Gillespie Quintet, a Roy Eldridge Sextet and a solo Lee Konitz. Jazz Studio One, on Brunswick 1954, just one track each side, Tenderly and Lets Split. The Carla Bley Band on Watt 1982, Five Birds And A Monk, on Galaxy recorded 1978. I have about a 1000 vinyl LPs.
  19. I hope this is the right place for questians, I have an album called Five Birds And A Monk, this is on vinyl and I was wondering as to the availability on cd. Its on Galaxy records and was recorded in Dec 1978. Basically its a rhythm section of Stanley Cowell, Roy Haynes and either John Heard or Cecil McBee on bass. Then one track each for the following sax players, Art Pepper, John Klemmer, Harold Land, Johnny Griffin, Joe Farrell and Joe Henderson. Any info please.
  20. With all this knowledge on Mark Murphy, I have a question ?. I have a track by Mark on a compilation the title of which is Why And How. This was co writen by Jimmy Deuchar/Mark Murphy. Now as I am a fan of both these gentlemen I would like to try to get the album. All I know is recorded December 1967 in Cologne Germany, and such people as Francy Boland, Kenny Clarke, Ronnie Scott, Sahib Shihab and Jimmy Deuchar are among the band. Cheers for any help.
  21. I really like this album and ofcourse Out To Lunch. The funny thing is I have been replaying Eric Dolphy music since I was stopped dead by the beauty and intelligence of his solos when playing with Mingus on numbers like Stormy Weather and R&R.
