Has any of there recordings gone to CD, I have Mt Fuji on vinyl but did not know there were others.

It was not criticizing you, in fact I agree with most of what I think you are saying but you must let someone know if you have something to sell. I apoligize for not reading your piece thoroughly but I would say, try "Heaven On Earth" , see if you like it. Its the best release since "Live At Bakers Keyboard Lounge" and with a quality cast John Medeski, Christian McBride, Adam Rogers and Joey Baron on drums.

They have got to let you know what is coming and without hearing the album, the next best thing is to read about it and then you can whatch for its release. I think you will find that "Heaven On Earth" was the more recent album for James Carter, 2009, where as "Presenttense" was 2008. Heaven On Earth was a really enjoyable album for me, from start to finish. My one criticism is the goodbyes and thank you to band, spoken over the backing at about three quarters of the way through the last track, a sensational rendition of Larry Youngs "Heaven On Earth". Looking forward to hearing the new album.

Some how she just put the right words into a song. The album I have been listening to all week is "A Lazy Kind Of Love" recorded by Sarah Moule. It is superb.

Very sad news, some of my favourite songs have Frans lyrics, Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most, Small Day Tomorrow, Living In Overdrive, Sounds Like Goodbye, also a poet. The jazz world will miss her. I believe she was still performing as late as last week. RIP Fran.

Coleridge Goode, bass player extraordinare, played bass for Django Reinhardt and for Joe Harriott Quintet, has been given an award by the 2011 Parlimentry Jazz Awards. It is, Services To Jazz Award, he has had to reach the age of 96 for this recognition. Don't worry Coleridge, we all new you were special.

Is it my imagination or does a some of her phrasing sound like Joe Harriott?

I am waiting for my copy to arrive, I ordered after reading a five star rating in Jazzwise.

Having seen Alan a lot of times, particularly at Scarborough Jazz Festival where he is MC for the weekend, you can't help but like the man. His musical ability is beyond question on the various reeds. I must relate an incident two or three years back, when Tony Kofi was late at Scarborough. Anders Olinder (B3) and Winston Clifford (drums) had arrived but Tony's gearbox had blown just outside Scarborough and he had Byron Wallen with him. So what occurred was Olinder and Clifford were on stage when the ever resourceful Alan Barnes and his alto let the most amazing organ trio. It was awesome, after about three numbers, of good length, Tony came running on stage, throwing off his hat and coat, sax in hand and reclaimed his band with great thanks to Alan. I think the albums of Alan's I play most are "Yeah!" , all Horace Silver Compositions, Barnes/Weller band "Cannonball" and a really nice album "Manhattan" with Conte Candoli. Alan plays some great baritone sax on this one. I really like Simon Spillett on the Woodville label. Cheers Ray

Look out for Stan Tracey's new album "Soundcheck", it is very good. It is released on 21 st Feb and is another double album. The first disc is duets with Clark Tracey, drummer and son. Stans wife had said that they should record what they played as sound checks and here it is. On reading this I was less than excited but I cannot stop playing it. It is vibrant, alive, creative, and great fun. The second disc is trio work with Andrew Cleyndert on bass with great standards including some Monk. Cheers Ray

Another sad loss, I saw him with some of the british greats, always good, always at home. Yesterday I was listening to Joe Harriotts album "Live At Harry's" on which Tony play's, I believe it is made from some of Tony's private recordings. Thanks for the music. RIP Tony Levin.

Here is some really good news, Another milestone for jazz from UK Jazz Radio UK Jazz Radio, the internet-based jazz music radio station with a global following of well over a million listeners, has unveiled the launch of a television channel dedicated purely to jazz. If you go to www.ukjazzradio.com and then click onto media, it will reveal the full extent to which this will be used. The combining of TV to the national jazz archives is going to be invaluable. I have not heard that one but I bought a Joe HarriottQuintet on the same label. This album is also called Jazz For Moderns. Although it is a full size 12 inch album it is a 45 rpm format. There are four tracks on it, two Dizzy Reece compositions " Shepherds Serenade and Variations On Monk" and two free form tracks by Joe Harriott "Pictures and Tonal". It is great to hear the quintet, Joe on alto, Shake Keane on flugelhorn, Pat Smythe piano, the wonderful Coleridge Goode on bass and Bobby Orr on drums. Brings back good memories. Its from a BBC session so as you would expect good recording and on the Gearbox label. Its from 1962 but the whole album is only 15 minutes long and cost me £20.00. So you have to be a fan but I am glad I bought it. Cheers Ray.

Hi, I am putting together a radio show of the recordings of Simon Wallace and Fran Landesman songs. I think their songs are great Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most, A Lazy Kind Of Love, It's Not Your Night, Sounds Like Goodbye, It's Cool To Be Cool and Feet Do Your Stuff to name but a few. My problem to make the show a little more balanced I would like to have a few more male singers. Fran Landesmans lyrics do tend to be a little female in their slant. So any suggestions please? Not a bad singer, a very good song writer, and I really like the title track.

I have long been a fan of Jon Faddis, he helps make the sound of many recordings where he is a side man. I like the previously mentioned Peterson and Faddis but one of my favorites is "Le Jazz Grand" the Michel Legrand album with Phil Woods, Gerry Mulligan and Jon Faddis. The Southern Routes suite is so good and Iberia Nova which is featuring Jon Faddis is well worth a listen.

Can anyone help, I have the the Muse vinyl of Red Rodney's "The Red Tornado". Musicians with Red are, Bill Watrous - Trombone, George Young - Tenor & Flute, Roland Hanna - Piano, Sam Jones - Bass, Billy Higgins - Drums. Tracks, For Dizzy, I Can't Get Started, Red Bird, The Red Tornado, Nos Duis Ga Tarde, The Red Blues, I just wondered if this has gone to CD, perhaps it is there but has been re-named? I really like Ronnie Cuber, but then any baritone sax player grabs my attention, that deep fruity sound. Two more who have not been mentioned David Schumacher and Alan Barnes, both make a lovely sound.

I was browsing through some old video's of the Tubby Hayes Big Band, from some old bbc jazz programmes and to my great pleasure there was a lot of Jimmy Deuchar playing bothe the trumpet and the mellophonium. Its an amazing instrument with a very nice sound.
