Criminey. This post should be in the political forum!!! No, I never met the man and I don't know him personally, but you can paint a pretty accurate picture about someone by their actions and words. He was obviously a great football player. But he also felt a lot of hatred towards homosexuals. Saying that they are responsable for the downfall of society goes beyond a stupid statement to me (although obviously very stupid) and thus I can't think of him as just a great football player. It is too bad he died young.

I saw this advertised in a recent issue of Downbeat and remembered his name from the Adam Scone disc. With Peter Bernstein and Hazeltine on board, I'll definitely be picking this one up.

Lions got a much needed win today after that heart-breaker last Sunday.... still laughing over that one. Laughing from sadness.

I've been looking for a Frank Comstock record forever. And guess what? I can't remember the title right now, but it has something to do with space. It features prominently the Hammond Novachord, which was a weird-ass all tube synthesizer that Hammond made in the 30s.

Pistons got a much needed win over the Pacers today. Didn't get to see the game due to family stuff, but I read that nothing happened and the Piston players felt that the game represented "closure" over the "basketbrawl" scenario. I hope that this will indeed close the book on that chapter for them and they can get back to focusing on defending their title. GO PISTONS!

Well, I'm using the great resources at AAJ (they have a list of 274 jazz stations... some are internet only, some are smooth, but it's a decent list) and I'm systematically trying to find out if: a) They use local DJs or just have syndicated shows b) If they do use local DJs, which ones might be most interested in our disc. The other night I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning finding email addresses and listening to streams of various stations to try and determine who might fit the bill. I emailed probably 12 people that night and already got one response (who said "SEND IT!") which is pretty good considering it's the holiday. Since I'm a stay-at-home dad, I figure I can do the work myself. I just need a good list on contacts... ergo, this new forum!!! Phil, did it really cost you $25k for your last disc? Wow-za. Big bands are expensive!

Although 10,000 sounds like a lot (and if we sold 10,000 records, I'd be shitting my pants! ) when you come right down to it, considering there are over 250 million people in the US alone, it should be completely possible to sell that much. Of course, it's progressive big band music. And we're culturally vapid. If she doesn't sell enough to make back her costs, it would be really sad. It's a beautiful record (Joe G played it for me... need my own copy).

I didn't get this for Christmas, though it was on my list. Guess I'll have to get it for me-self.
