I have a bunch of Mosaic sets ... maybe 20+. Anyway, my kids use them as backboards for their drawings when they are laying on the floor. That is all well and fine, well manageable. This past weekend ... my 8 year old took one of them in the car to be able to draw in the back seat. We get home ... and it is nowhere to be found. I have no idea how it got out of his control ... and I wasn't sure which set he had pulled. So I went home and did a quick inventory and lo and behold it was the Andrew Hill set. Yes, let me repeat that, the Andrew Hill set. aaaaargh!!!
Anyway, I am a nice understanding dad and love my kids more than my Mosaics ... but what a buzz-kill ...

according to the Jazzmatazz site, the reconstituted Savoy is supposed to re-issue Iron City very soon ...
if you like jazz, it is a good date ... if you like GG and organ trio stuff, it is essential ...

I have ordered from these guys before - some of the Fresh Sounds New Talent stuff. They seem to be legit and reliable. I just placed an order for some of "blue hue" BNs plus the 2CD live Wes Mongomery and a couple of others. Snagged 8 CDs in total for a price of 70 euros, inclusive of 17 for shipping (total comes out to ~ $85 bucks). Yeah, the shipping is probably high but the all-in cost works for me.

Another vote for the Mosaic set ... you won't be disappointed and you can fill in the others later.

I bought several of these a few years back - one of them was Hub Cap if I am not mistaken. Seemed like official product, sound was fine. They were gatefold covers and yeah, the colors were "darkened" somewhat. I viewed it as a nice way to fill in some titles I wanted but missed in the US. Seems like both Poppin' and Boss Horn would be nice scores, particularly at that price.

I'll add a bit of a contrarian point of view. I was weaned on the lps and with the box, you lose the original sequencing. Since the latest CDs have great sound, they really are a nice alternative.
I don't care much for the lp with Don Cherry or Ole', so I could have done very nicely with the individual CDs of MFT, Giant Steps, Plays the Blues, Coltrane's Sound and the one with Milt Jackson.
But either way, you can't go wrong. You do get the booklet and there is a CD on the box that collects (I think) all the previously unreleased alt tracks.

Lon,
Don't have the book in front of me, but I definitely remember seeing the footnote that references your interview.
I have only read through a few sections of the book ... hard to say if it reveals a great deal for the hard core BN fan, but it does seem to be a nice book.

There is a Wynton CD - one of the Soul Gestures in Southern Blue with Joe and Elvin Jones. Great music.

dang it
in Mosaic and other box sets...

CDs in the box ... of course. Fortunately I had burned some of them to sequence the complete album, like Andrew! and the one with Sam Rivers, but it still sucks ... bad.
