Man, how about those Phillies??? I thought the Dodgers had this game wrapped up with that 5-3 lead, but two 2 run homers later, it was the Phillies up 3-1 in the series. Got to feel good for an old timer like Matt Stairs to get the biggest homer of his career at the age of 40!

Well, the good part of the economy tanking is gas prices are dropping like a rock. $3.29 is what I saw Saturday(we had been around $4.09 during the gas shortages in the ATL a few weeks back) and I know it's under $3.00 in some parts of the country.... But, $2.20 sounds better to me as well!

Yes , he will ! I thought so, too. The players vote on winner's shares, so I guess it's possible they could cut him out. But the ring, I did wonder if he was entitled regardless of what anyone in the Red Sox organization might think about it. And I can't imaging the players not voting him a share. That would establish a bad precedent, I'd think. Quitting on your team and getting rewarded with a bigger contract and a WS share from the team you quit on...that would establish a bad precedent as well! But, you are probably right, they would vote him a share and give him a ring. "Hey Manny, hows it going??? Just wanted to give you a ring...talk to you later! "

I don't know about that. Dodgers have better starting pitching, Phillies better hitting. And we all know what good pitching does to good hitting. Clearly. Their pitching is so much better that they were down 0-2. The Phillies are the better team, all that remains is to see if the games bear that out. Hey, the cubs were the deepest team in the NL, and they didn't win a game against the Dodgers! Including the playoffs, the home team has won every game between the Phils and Dodgers. Of course, that would mean the Phils have the edge right now, besides the fact they are up 2-1 Lowe was 9-5 with a 2.30 ERA in LA. Billingsley was 10-4 with a 2.95 ERA at home(3.14 ERA overall) Lowe had 5 shut out innings before imploding in the 6th. He will be on a short leash tonight. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather see the Phils in the WS instead of the Dodgers. The Manny story will be THE story in that series. I'd love to see him booed for 20 minutes straight, but I'd rather he just start looking for a sucker team in the NL that will give him 4 years and 100 mil,(Why did the Giants just pop into my mind???) and then see father time finally kick his ass....than see him hit some WS homers and get a 5 year deal from some stupid NL team. Goodspeak, Is he old enough for the Giants????

If I remember correctly, he was run, and then came storming out...the TBS crew didn't know he had been kicked out til they saw the replay. I think Moyer can pitch just fine IF the team he is facing is not patient. Same thing happened to Glavine most years with the braves. teams would not swing at the low and away change-up and if he just tried to go outside with the fastball, the took it the other way.... Moyer had a 5.01 ERA in 2007, and 3.71 in 2008. he's made 33 starts, 3 years in a row. I'm way too tired to look his other stats up, but I bet he did better in the bandbox than on the road.

I don't know about that. Dodgers have better starting pitching, Phillies better hitting. And we all know what good pitching does to good hitting. Now, if the Phillies had the Dodgers pitching, that would be a WS worth watching!

Your new nickname should be ADHD!

I missed the earlier innings, but I saw the "highlights" of Beckett pitching. Did he ever throw a ball above 90??? I think both he and Kasmir must be hurt, which means they are hurting their team's chances, why not be honest???

Repairing a Scratched Big Screen TV?
BERIGAN replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
How deep would you say it is??? Listen to what others say before even thinking of using this, but there are products for cars to remove scratches, haze, etc from plastic headlight covers(I just justed plain old paint cleaner on a friends headlight covers-he has ALS and can't do stuff like this anymore) Even products for plastic windows on convertibles. But, needless to say, a flat screen is very different. Last resort stuff I am talking about. -
Marty, I don't know about that bunt attempt, it looked like it moved way inside and down at the last second, wasn't a straight pitch at all, from what I could see.... Congrats to the Yankees of the first decade of the 21st century, Go Rays! Though if the Sox win, and the Dodgers get in, I will root for the Sox, do NOT want to see a greedy asshole like Manny get a ring as a reward for tanking and nearly ruining his (former)team's chance to win.

Anka always looked evil to me. Like a guy that would should someone right between the eyes, and then calmly go out to dinner....

The Red Sox can win the series( I am sure Red Sox nation is glad to hear I said it's ok) but, damn I am glad to see the Angels get that (non rally) monkey off their back! That looked like too many games I have seen were the underdog(I know they had a great year, and we all know how much that matters) fight, scratch, and claw to keep the score tied, but that team can't get a run to save their lives. The Angels have a hell of a lot of fight, unlike some other teams in the playoffs. In a perfect world, every playoff team would win one game. I hate to see fans have nothing to cheer about 3 days straight. I really should be a liberal!

Dan, I forget that a 5 game series decided who won the pennant! What you mention for next year though, if they can do that, play til the 5th of Nov, why not extend the first round?? More money for the teams, fans would feel like their team had a better chance to show what they can do, and a chance for snow delays....who wouldn't want that?
-
I thought it was a thunder snowstorm that cancelled the game???? Man, I was just slightly cool on the cubs because I thought they were almost a team put together with no consideration to cost, we need it, get it. But, if that's what it took to finally get into a series, and win it, then do it...Well, it just goes to show you how the best team in a league isn't the best team for a short series. And damn, I know it's been brought up before, but someone please do away with 5 game series!!! You lose the first two, and it's basically over. Heck, lose game one, and to win 3 out of next 4 sounds damn near impossible. Any guesses as to what was wrong with this team??? Too much pressure?? 3 starting pitchers picking a really lousy time to suck? Harden's velocity is way down, I think only someone on ESPN mentioned it-well, heard it at the very beginning of the game that he was slower early in the last few starts-but 90-91 MPH ain't gonna cut it without a ton of movement. Soriano was huge in Yankee playoff games, it can't be a pressure issue with him. He just was stone cold down the stretch. The TBS post game group looked down after the fact. It's funny, Ekersley said something to start the playoff coverage about how he had been on teams that were the best team that year, and getting knocked out early... The Dodgers have to be given some credit though, timely hitting, and pitchers who throw hard and almost nothing straight. I was happy for the Japanese pitcher who never was in the playoffs after something like 12 years in Japan, and for Casey Blake, after the tough time Cleveland had last year...Gotta find something to be positive about.

Maybe K-Rod is spent ?....62 saves out of what 69 chances ? See thats why the Sox are careful with Papelbon . I heard a few weeks back that K-Rod never went more than 1 inning the whole year, their way of protecting him.

AND Three Rivers Stadium held, what, 72K? Not quite. Capacity 38,496 (2001) Although, ballparks.com has it at 47,971 (baseball). Those numbers seem low to me. Wiki says The stadium originally seated 58,729 for baseball.[15] In the early 1990s, the Pirates placed tarps on most of the upper deck to create a better baseball atmosphere, reducing capacity to 47,687. Three Rivers closed in 2000, so the 2001 figure is for the new park. Lets go with 58. Whichever number you take, none of 'em are 72K. Yeah, most of the donut shaped stadiums held 55 K+ Busch, Riverfront, Three Rivers.

First the ATL was running out of water, Now..it's Gas
BERIGAN replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Man, that sucks about the reunion. And that's amazing that Croatia never ran out of fuel! -
We didn't panic like everyone else...stupid us! Saw idiots in NC filling up milk jugs with gas! And now, if I want gas, I have to go out at 4 AM. And there still are only a couple of stations that have any that early. Low sulfur fuel is an issue here as well....Bad til Columbus day AAA says... CNN) -- Gas shortages are afflicting drivers across the Southeast. Some of the problems were caused by Hurricane Ike affecting oil production and refining along the Gulf Coast, but empty gas pumps also are being blamed on the consumers themselves. A sign breaks the bad news to motorists that there's no gas available at a filling station in Nashville, Tennessee. CNN affiliates are reporting on the effects of the shortages that have caused many gas stations to shut down and many drivers to become frustrated. Asheville, North Carolina City officials in Asheville have closed the civic center, parks and offices because of the gas shortage, CNN affiliate WHNS-TV reports. Police also are monitoring stations that do have gas after reports of fights at pumps between drivers accusing each other of cutting in line. "It's been a nightmare for everybody," one driver, who found gas Thursday, told the station.
