  1. I saw that as I was typing it, so I put a comma in....still didn't stop ya!
  2. Guys, (and Guy ) thanks for the suggestions.... Last time I went to the ER, I went about 2 years ago when I blew out a disc in my back, and couldn't even walk. Had a friend wheel me in, and it was a nightmare. Waited hours, and when I finally saw someone after much begging,(At the time, the pain and the pain pills I was taking, I couldn't even pee in a cup for them, I know, TMI!) all I could get was an X-ray of my back. That, and some weak pain pills. And a big bill. So, I'd rather see my Doctor tomorrow. It's just really lousy timing. My Dad and I are supposed to go to L.A. to see my Uncle, Thursday. Don't know why my one foot is swollen, and it doesn't seem too smart to fly now does it?????
  3. Sounds like a joke, but it isn't. I just noticed when I was sitting down, that my left foot was swollen. Never, ever had a problem like this before! My ankles is swollen as well, and only now do I notice my foot feeling spongy. My Mom was a diabetic , and had problems with water retention all of her life, which only got worse as she had heart issues. I have just discovered my blood sugar has been a bit high, and have been exercising a lot more, and trying to eat less. But, didn't exercise yesterday, had no pain in my leg, and was going to go to the gym in just a little while before I discovered this problem. Too late to call my Doc today, any thoughts???? Thanks.....
  4. Two-finger salute By DAVID WOODING Whitehall Editor July 13, 2007 COMMENT ON THIS STORY FURY erupted last night after Sir Winston Churchill was axed from school history lessons. Britain’s cigar-chomping World War Two PM — famed for his two-finger victory salute — was removed from a list of figures secondary school children must learn about. Instead they will be taught about “relevant” issues such as global warming and drug dangers. Churchill’s grandson, Tory MP Nicholas Soames, branded the move “total madness.” The decision to axe Churchill is part of a major shake-up aimed at dragging the national curriculum into the 21st century, it was claimed last night. But the plan — hatched by advisers — angered schools secretary Ed Balls, who vowed to probe ALL the changes to the curriculum. The proposals will see traditional timetables torn up, with pupils focusing on modern “relevant” topics such as drug and booze abuse, climate change and GM foods. Churchill — voted the greatest ever Briton — goes off the required lessons list, along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King. There will also be no need to mention the Wars of the Roses, Elizabeth I or Henry VIII. The move left Mr Balls locked in a row with his curriculum advisers. He insisted: “Churchill should be taught to all pupils and I shall be taking steps to ensure it is.” Shadow schools secretary Michael Gove said: “Winston Churchill is the towering figure of 20th-century British history. His fight against fascism was Britain’s finest hour. “Our national story can’t be told without Churchill at the centre.” Churchill’s grandson, Tory MP Nicholas Soames, stormed: “It’s total madness. The teaching of history is incredibly important. If people do not seem to care about the country in which they live, the reason is that they don’t know much about it.” Ministers said the shake-up will free up a quarter of the school day so teachers can focus more on individual pupil needs. All subjects for 11 to 14-year-olds face an overhaul. ENGLISH: Lessons must focus on reading and writing accurately and speaking clearly. Classic and modern literature will be a must. Recommended authors will include Jane Austen, George Orwell and Alan Bennett. Pupils must study at least one Shakespeare play. SCIENCE: Touchy issues such as genetic engineering of plants and animals and use of nuclear power are added. Kids will also learn about the effects of drugs such as booze, cigarettes and cannabis, sexual health and infection. MATHS: Personal finance, such as how to manage a bank account and work out credit card interest will be added to algebra, linear equations and ratios. HISTORY: Will still focus on major events in Britain, Europe and the world, including both world wars, the Holocaust, and the British Empire. Visits to museums, galleries and historical sights are a must. MODERN LANGUAGES: Schools will be able to stop teaching French, German and Spanish and offer other languages, including Urdu, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic. Qualifications and Curriculum Authority boss Ken Boston said the changes would equip young people “with the skills for life and work in the 21st century”. A spokesman said changes would not be radical, adding: “Anne Boleyn will still be beheaded, the Pennines will remain the backbone of England and Romeo will still fall in love with Juliet.” Headteachers last night said that the reforms were “a move in the right direction”. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007320449,00.html
  5. Why doesn't Gary Sheffield have the steroid stigma that Bonds, McGuire, Sosa and Giambi have??? Now he's bashing Torre, saying he treated African-American players differently than whites and Latinos. Good grief. Of course, any time Torre called him out, it wasn't because he was a player that quit on purpose to get traded from Milwaukee, and burned the bridges with every team he has ever played for. It was because of his skin color. You always hear Jeter talking about how Torre didn't treat him right based on his race(Well, Sheff said he wasn't black enough, didn't he?) All I know is Sheff chokes when the games matter. For the Braves, he hit .063 in the 2002 playoffs, and .143 in 2003....Didn't he go hitless the last 4 games against Boston when they won the AL Pennant????
  6. True enough, but do you think within their current political system, a Chinese Upton Sinclair will get a book published there???

  8. Just happened to flip by a movie on TCM yesterday from 1933, Central Airport ,and there he was in the movie! One of many he didn't even receive a credit(at the time) for being in! Check out how very many films and TV shows he was in during his career! I was amazed to see him as a middle aged character in It's a Wonderful Life. Graying hair, and yet he lived 60 years after the film came out!!! http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0485272/
  9. Missed seeing this the first time(Need to make all personal posts in the non music section, for those of us who can give a damn about jazz! ) Glad to hear you a doing so well!
  10. Hope it was a great one!!!!!
  11. Has anyone noticed that Roger Clemens has pitched 8 innings in back to back starts, and given up only one run in each start as well??? I told you folks! He can still pitch, and once he got through playing those rough and tough NL hitters, and back to pitching against the weak, girly man AL hitters, he'd be alright! Still too little too late it appears.....
  12. Missed this thread the first time as well, great news FFA!!! Don't sweat hurricane season too much in Tallahassee....you might see the remnants of a storm, but like Jacksonville on the other side of the state(Where I lived for 10 years) Hurricanes don't often visit....hope I won't jinx that for you!
  13. Oh, and Andruw has a 7 game hitting streak right now! His average is up to.....202 after tonights game. 7 games, 7 hits. 30 AB's. That means.....Andruw has a .233 average over the streak! I don't think I have ever heard of a hitter batting under .250 with a "streak" like this, but Andruw is truly one in a million......
  14. From the AJC's baseball blogger(Atlanta newspaper) Anyone else not convinced Bobby Cox has lost his marbles??? (I hope by pounding this point, Andruw Jones will hit .400 for the rest of the season! Andruw not going to bench: But you already knew that, didn’t you? As frustrated as it’s been watching the 2005 NL MVP runner-up go half a season hitting under .200, all signs point to Bobby Cox sticking with him as long as it takes for Andruw Jones to snap out of this mother of all slumps. Now, whether Bobby will continue to see logic in batting Andruw fourth is something none of us is qualified to answer. But here’s what Bobby said about Andruw yesterday, to give you an idea of just how deep and unwavering is the manager’s patience and support for Jones: “He’s still the best center fielder in baseball. He’s always had some parts of the season where he’s looked like that [bad at the plate]. Not this long, but…. “At the end of the year, he’s going to have 100 RBIs, 30 homers, and hopefully get his average higher. And he catches everything that goes up.” So hold on, and put Mr. Mendoza on notice. For the record, here’s the update: Andruw’s .199 average remains the NL’s worst (among qualifiers), and his .140 average (13-for-93) after the sixth inning is the league’s second-worst. His .193 average (29-for-150) with runners on base is also the NL’s second-lowest.
  15. Just think if they could have dropped 10k on the 4th of July. Would have ranked up there with Tim McCarver's "grand slam" double on the bicentennial. Huh???? I am far to young to remember Tim McCarver as Steve Carlton's personal catcher, and playing with the Phillies....but, anyway, I still don't know what you are talking about!
  16. Tom...sorry to hear about this. A few quick thoughts. First, don't panic. Won't do you any good, and just about everyone gets let go, fired, whathaveyou, at some point these days....you were lucky to work that long for one company. 19 years. Hmmm. Don't know how big the company is, but have other people been terminated before reaching 20 years with your company? Would YOU see a retirement package at 20 years??? You might be able to sue them over this. Won't solve the career issue, but I get awfully suspicious about companies that fire folks at 19 years. Happened to a good friend of mine who worked for one company for 19 years as well. He never looked into suing them though. There are some pluses to working for 19 years for the same company. It will look great on a resume. Others will have better advice, but get a book, and with your wife or a friend write a great resume!!! Post it on Monster.com and career builder.com. You may want to consider starting your own company if at all possible. Nothing like being your own boss. Be sure to file for unemployment right away. Be prepared with whatever documents they gave you. Hopefully, they won't put up a fight, but I had an employer try that with me 10+ years ago, but I was there for the call they made to my ex manager, and I had the reasons I was let go in print with me. So when she tried to claim I was continually late, and missed a fair bit of work, I had the proof with me that those were not the reasons I was terminated, and got my check(Only one, had another job lined up, but it was the principle of the situation) Like I said before, don't panic, or get too down about this. It will get you down, it's the end of an relationship, but hopefully, you will look back on this as a good thing. Best of Luck!
  17. Dan, et al. Baseball sure is a funny sport, eh??? The Braves beat the Indians 2 out of 3 in Cleveland, then the first game at the Ted against the Sox...then scored 1 run the next 5 games with the Sox and Tigers, and looked like a last place team. So, in come the Nationals, who have had our number this year(Don't laugh, they were 8-7 against the AL in interleague play! ) so, we beat them 3 straight, then take 2 from the Marlins. Should have had another sweep, but Booby Cox did whatever he could to lose it for us. Keeps playing Andruw even though he is still hitting below .200, brought in Wickman again to face the guy who hit a homer off him the night before (Oliva?) and guess what? He gets hit again, and we lost in extra innings! Everyone that would normally defend Cox is bashing him even. Just stupid. Won't rid us of the 2 worthless .200 hitting backup infielders. Won't bring up a 3rd catcher so "Salty" and McCann can play in the same game(they have, but not often) 4 outfielders, which almost guarentees Andruw and Francouer play not only every game, but every inning of every game!!!! Duh! Cox's managing has probably cost the team 7 wins right about now, which would put us in first. Meanwhile, in the AL East all the teams seem to suck right now!!! If Toronto or the Yankees was playing even .500 ball there would be a race. I can't imagine Sox fans would be happy facing the Tigers, or the Angels(Man, cannot believe the Angels hit .325 for the month of June!!!) if Papi and Manny don't improve. They have to improve, right? Just like Andruw Jones didn't become a .199 hitter just cuz he turned 30, right???? Right???
  18. both of Republicans are blocked, eh?
  19. Yes, I see it's still there!
  20. Yes welcome back! (Wesbed as well!) Was wondering though, why does every other post have a light peach background??? Edit: more lavender
  21. Wow! Who is this guy?? Name kinda sounded like Terry Ulser, or something like that. Not one of the many names on the Wikipedia link...
  22. H a p p y Birthday! Hope it was great, and jazz filled...of course, if it was jazz filled, how could it not be great????
  23. Ladies and gentleman, the amazing .199 clean-up hitter!!! Braves have been shut out 3 times in a row for the first time since 1988, when they lost 106 games!
  24. My word is gold! He will be fine this year, bank on it! Seriously, the splitter was doing nothing at all in Colorado, and Tim Kurkjian said he had a history of not pitching well there, then didn't give any numbers to back it up.
  25. Yes Brad, our teams are! I know fans on both sides realise a golden opportunity has been lost with both teams sucking so. I think we are 8-12 for the month, and went from 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 games out! Do you wonder if the Marlins will come on strong like they did last year, and blow the rest of the division away? They just beat up the White Sox, and we all know how great...oh wait, they suck this year, never mind! Phillies are interesting, but if Myers and Gordon are out long/can't come back, they are toast. I just fear the "braintrust" of the Braves trading "Salty" for some lame soft tossing 3rd or 4th starter, then losing the lame guy after the season. Meanwhile, Jarrod will hit 25-30 homers for the White Sox, or whomever. Anyone you fear losing in an trade for pitching?
