  1. The Andrew Hill composition Erato http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8e6TBOMqf8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVpodFwYseo
  2. I've had a hard time getting in to this one, having really enjoyed (Put Your) Hands Together. Objectively it's a top notch album, but i'm just not enjoying it. Would be keen to hear the thoughts of any one else that's spent any time with it... not sure if i just need more listens or if i need to shelve it and come back to it at a later date with fresh ears.
  3. I'm definitely in the 'wouldn't mind getting this if i had money to burn' camp on this one.
  4. I'm definitely a fan of Halvorson, but i'm finding that her flavour is so strong that it's putting me off albums that she appears on. I've been really enjoying Jonathan Finlayson's Moment & The Message, and looking for other records that feature him i thought about finally pulling the trigger on a Tomas Fujiwara & The Hook Up album. Listening to the samples though Halvorson's sound is so unique that it just tends to dominate... wouldn't be a problem if i couldn't get enough of her but i'm finding that i can and have had enough of her, at least for the time being. I haven't had this problem with the Braxton records she appears on for some reason or other stuff i've heard in the past... anyway, just thinking aloud... maybe i just have Halvorson fatigue... i think i'll stick to her leader dates for the time being, i love her compositions.
  5. The two Rites Quartet albums with Marty Ehrlich, Things Have Got to Change (2009) and Frog Leg Logic (2011), feature excellent playing from Zollar. Jeremy Pelt was mentioned earlier in the thread. I'd never heard him before but picked up The Talented Mr Pelt from a bargain bin today on a whim. Really enjoyable unashamedly straight ahead type stuff. Might even end up getting another album from this quintet (features JD Allen and Gerald Cleaver, among others).
  6. I've had a couple of listens to this and i'm really enjoying it. I quite like The Bad Plus, but i've kind of seen Iverson as being the slightly weak link, for whatever reason. I guess it's because they're quite a compositionally oriented group, and i tend to find his compositions less enjoyable than those of Dave King and particularly Reid Anderson. Anyway, i'm really enjoying hearing him outside of the TBP, hearing him in a new light here. Not that his playing here is going to set the world on fire or anything but just a personal observation. I've really been digging recent Konitz (highly enjoyed Enfants Terribles... sorry if i'm losing you here, probably already lost you at The Bad Plus) and this is another fine outing for him in my opinion. Grenadier and Rossy are in fine form, too.
  7. New Septet album, Illusionary Sea, is due out on Firehouse 12 on September 10th. Can't wait.
  8. Thanks for the welcome, everyone. Aside from Conversations With a Goose, there's also a double up with the Motian set with the inclusion of Notes. Full list FWIW: Sonor Tango Palace Hot Notes Mindset Live at Sweet Basil Memoirs Conversations With a Goose Chaos
  9. Cheers for the welcome jazzbo, i appreciate it.
  10. Hi all, My name is Chris, this is my first post on the Organissimo forums. I'm not really in to these "i'm new here" type posts but just out of respect i'll give a brief introduction. I've been posting on the AAJ forums for just over 4 years (not sure if this will endear me to you or not ha ha but i've enjoyed my time there overall). Organissimo threads have come up quite often when i'm searching for info online, to the point where i'll often google an artists name along with 'Organissimo Forums' (for example 'Lee Konitz Organissimo Forums'), and what comes up usually makes for interesting reading. Anyway, i've decided to take the plunge and sign up. Cheers, everyone. Anyway, to the thread at hand. I'm extremely happy to see that these sets are still being produced. Out of the latest batch i've really been hanging out for the Bley one. Seeing that they're doing another Murray set gives me hope that they may do another Steve Lacy set.
